As he is still under contract, does anyone know (and I stress know rather than can speculate!) if Sakh could actually refuse to move to another club even if Liverpool agreed a price with them? I know that players also get to negotiate personal terms with the new club, so could he just say "No! I won't play for (say) West Ham" ? Well I *think* that the buying club is paying compensation for termination of the playing contract on behalf of the player, and that the buying club would not do that if it were not confident of being able to sign a playing contract with the player itself, which would mean agreeing personal terms, passing a medical, and compliance with FA rules. So if Sakho is not willing to play for West Brom (say), then West Brom will not be giving the bin dippers £30m to wind up his contract with them.

So if LFC want to sell to Leicester and Sakho says no, no it is. LFC either sell him to a club Sakho agrees to, Sakho runs down his contract, or gets loaned out, again to a club Sakho agrees to. Not all players can pull this off. You've got to be a top performer or your reputation is damaged. When this sort of power happened I'm not exactly sure but I'd say when players were earning enough 1 contract to never have to work again. Back in the days of driving ford Capris and maybe running a pub in retirement or being skint by 40 odd this wouldn't happen. You're sold, you go. You misbehave, you train with the kids for a while, learn your lesson and get let back in.

I wonder if Parish has agreed to split any saving with him 50/50.

Oh the Bosman ruling gave players this option of running contract down to either earn more as a free agent or steer their career where they want. Got to be good and on top money to do it. You could break your leg weeks before becoming a free agent and if you're not excellent you don't have the worth to take on.

Sakho seems to have said he doesn't want to go anywhere except Palace. I'm sure he can't really want to sit on the bench until January, so he must be reasonably confident that we will pay up in the end. Everyone knows how popular he was and would be at Selhurst Park and that he really could make a difference here. Unless we're stupid enough to walk away for the sake of a couple of million this ought to go through. Actually walking away might make us look so ridiculous that the reputational damage alone might be worth that amount! Of course the medical had better include a full psychological assessment Edited by chateauferret (29 Aug 2017 7.40pm)

I never knew he was PSG captain at the age of 17. If he signs I wonder how long till he'll wear the arm band. Not sure many would argue Punch should keep it....

Yeah I only knew that when he signed last time. Then when he played I could see why. The only fault he made was playing the ball sideways to ward under pressure between box and corner flag in his 1st game minutes away from our first result for weeks. Not in his education to hack it away. Didn't see him do that again or hack it away. Any pass was safely to feet or turning defence into attack. A real craftsman.

Wants to come here over anywhere after all.
