If he wanted it, Howe would be my pick. Lee Carsley has no top level experience, so he'll probably get the gig. My views on Southgate are the same as most on here. Clearly an articulate and nice bloke who the players seems to like. However, he doesn't have the tactical knowledge to get the best out of his excellent squad. In fact, he's nowhere near. Despite getting to the final (somehow), I think this is our worst tournament performance under him. There appears to be a negative mindset - opposite of how they all play for their clubs - ingrained in the squad. We've seen it time and time again with England and we don't learn. There was a 3 minute spell after we scored where we looked like we had momentum and before you know it we're sitting back trying to absorb pressure. That winning goal was coming and it was deserved. As some of the pundits have said, Spain winning was good for football. Southgate, please resign.

Low for germany had no experience , deschamps and de la fuente club management was also underwehleming. - they all won things - Carsely did win the under 21s championship which southgate never did - so I dont think it would be the worst choice. Top Coaches dont always suit international football and nor would they want the job. - i fail to see why people don't know this, Poch, Klopp, Pep whoever it is, are never ever ever taking the england job. Best we can go for is Potter and Howe and thats about it.

Seeing as Englands next game is Sat 7th Sept away to ROI in the GrpB Nations League format(Greece & Finland as well), i believe the FA will keep GS at least till the end of his contract, which i read somewhere is 31st Dec(Willo can correct me). GS, could tho, resign & then what?

A very disappointing performance last night, it's all been written and critiqued well on here. Whilst I wanted England to do well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I am not feeling as downbeat this morning as I do when Palace lose. Watching Palace here at home on the TV I yell like crazy when we score, when England score I just smile. Might have been different if Eze had played and scored though. Anyway, the start of the season can't come soon enough for me now.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I managed to ignore International football for a while - which was definitely better for my mental health.

Southgate is a very decent human being,he is a gentleman of articulacy who conducts himself with dignity, charm and modesty and I wish him all the very best. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Hard to disagree with that Willo. However, as an international manager, he plateau'd some time ago. He is a great organiser and turned England round. But clearly he has not got what it takes to coach a tournament winning side. I think that we should certainly have beaten Croatia and Italy in the other two big games. Spain were the better side last night but were beatable. How many times did Pickford hit it long from goal kicks and clearances? We seem to be the only team still doing that and it gave possession away most times. No wonder we only had the ball 35% of the time. That has to be down to the coach. The Roy analogy is valid. Having seen what Glasner has achieved for us, I believe it is time to offer Gareth heartfelt thanks and to move on to a more progressive manager. And no, I don't have a name but maybe someone like Klopp? There has to be someone out there. Perhaps, but not by Germany or France. Amazing where fans now rank England.

It's amazing that even if we had won last night, and Southgate had left the job on a high, I reckon at least 90% of premier league fans wouldn't want him at their club.

Never been a fan of Southgate's tactics. Seems to come from the same school as Royball. Score a goal, shut up shop and pray for a miracle moment. No vision for risk taking.

Too many senior players below par this tournament Kane - either he’s injured or his legs are gone. I am more mobile than him. The only players who leave with their reputations enhanced are Geuhi Overall a completely I unmemorable tournament that could have been so different if Geuhi’s header was a foot either way and Stones had smaller knees. Fine margins indeed Edited by Bexley Eagle (15 Jul 2024 3.11pm)
