I must be a minority, but I love the way the club is run. Parish is, IMO, smarter than the money bags owners of other clubs our size in the division. I’m from the midlands, and I’ve been telling friends for a couple of years now, that Wolves are going to fall apart. Where we spend only what we can, Wolves have spent lavishly. £40m isn’t a high price to them. But this season, they have sold £80m worth of players, and still need to sell more to bring players in. That’s simply down to FFP forcing their hand. We have never been in that situation. It used to hurt me to watch a club like Wolves come up from the championship and immediately look better than us, and they did very well for a short period, but spending like that, it’s not sustainable. Now they are in big trouble. They looked a poor side last year, and I’d have them tipped for another bad season ahead. We rebuilt the squad for £70m not long ago. That’s the sort of money that gets you two good players in this current market. I think given the money available, it’s remarkable to still see us competing in the prem. Id love to have seen a new right back last season. But I’d argue that if the prices being quoted are not good value, if these players don’t represent a £20m improvement over what we have, then the club has likely decided to bide their time. It’s that sort of attitude that means we don’t have to accept low offers for our true stars. I don’t think you are in a minority, concern for the club being solvent goes right across the terraces . I would agree with almost everything you say here, because there is no doubt it is a balancing act. What I would say is that ,on the basis of wanting Roy ,to obtain his own ambition of progression to top ten the correct balance to enable that doesn’t appear to be there, certainly as things stand , hopefully finances are not so restricted that this will apply at the end of this window. In the long run when we stop chasing Roy’s ambition the game will be up. Insolvency would be every bit as close with relegation . So I just hope that when this club knows it losing three seasoned pros ,as is the case it has a solid practical and financial plan to maintain the balance of any team Roy puts out to fulfil his ambitions for progress.

I certainly wouldn’t be against the club selling a good player and being able to finance genuine improvements in the squad by doing so. That’s the football business for clubs like ours…in fact I’d argue it’s the best way of building a better team if you don’t have the money already. If we can continue to bring in players with the quality we have recently, then selling one to buy two is very much like saying 1 step back, 2 steps forward. It also means we should never again be so reliant on one single player like we were for so long with Zaha. Edited by Hudsoneagle (26 Jul 2023 3.01pm) Edited by Hudsoneagle (26 Jul 2023 3.02pm) definately. Although, an important distinction here on your use of the phrase "selling a good player and being able to finance genuine improvements"

definately. But, I’d say it’s realistic to improve the “squad” like I said. In a hypothetical sense, you sell a player who’s got top 6 potential and hope to replace him with 2 players of top 10 ability. That would be my idea of improving the squad, even if the first team is momentarily worse off.

Agreed. To finish top 10 we are going to need a fit replacement for Zaha. In terms of losing McArthur and Luka. My opinion is that we managed without McArthur last season, in the sense that he was injured and we still finished in a respectable position. Luka hasn’t had the legs for the prem for 2 seasons now. Lerma is potentially an upgrade in his physicality, not so much in his ability…but he does score more goals than Doucoure. A welcome signing I think. Let’s hope we see more from Ahamada also. We need more depth. I’d be surprised if we don’t make more signings.

Parish won’t leave us exposed in 3-4 positions. Just 1. Deja vu-lnerable Seriously though, after seeing the short list of clubs not relegated since our promotion that’s basically the top clubs plus Everton, and not including Newcastle, Parish has done a brilliant job using sensible means. One out to afford two in was always the way for us to go. Just have to have good scouting/recruitment and continuity with managers to see it through. Each summer feels the most crucial one. Aren’t they all now? When wasn’t there one? Now we have several sought after young players rather than 2-3 older players to replace not being fit enough, I know which situation I’d rather be in. The decision now must be which to replace when you have several fancied by top clubs. This isn’t easy compared to knowing roughly when one is going to move on so don’t expect perfection. Isn’t it 5 players in 4 outfield positions we’re at the mercy of big clubs using the right strategy? Andersen/Guehi Edited by Rudi Hedman (26 Jul 2023 5.49pm)

Quite right, those are all players linked away. You can add that both goalkeepers have been linked away also. I don’t believe the club would allow more than one to leave, not after losing Wilf already.

Yes I’m told the deal is done despite what the press & others are saying, we will see I suppose but I’ve been told it’s done & just a matter of time before it’s announced. Gray is also likely & we still want a striker which seems to be where most of the money we have will go.

He was on the Flamengo bench last night.
