Just seen on Twitter Pardew has just said we are not interested in signing Austin (not seen it myself)

How did you see it on twitter when you haven't seen it?!!

Pardew's pre-Chelsea press conference:

[Link]

At 06:38, in answer to a question, he confirms that he's not interested in signing Austin.

Thread closed

As if.

It just confirmed that we are interested in him.

You're clutching at non-existent straws and are, therefore, going to be very disappointed at 1801h on Tuesday

I believe the reporter was Gary Cotterill from
Sky Sports. Defo sounded like he was stirring for no reason! Absolute tool!!!

After today's performance, do you still think we need austin?

While wickham dosent look the most prolific striker, and needs to get in the box more, his hold up play is good and he appears to have the ability to set up his team mates. Created a lot of space for our wide players today.
I'm not sure he is going to light up the score charts for us though.

What more do you expect from a target man up front, so long as he's feeding the others like Sako, Puncheon, Zaha, then he's doing his job.

Wickham was great today. There were a few on here criticizing him during the game, but he did everything we asked of him. We've seen him against arsenal and chelsea, and he hasn't scored but the forward in those games has a thankless job. He came on against Norwich and created a goal. I would say he's our answer to the successor to murray.

Very true. Wickham is sure to improve in terms of goal scoring over time, and he has played in difficult games. Not saying I would turn my nose up at the chance of having Austin in a palace shirt, but I do think wickham is a very good signing for us, replicating murrays style of play.

Charlie Austin would not be replacement for Wickham. They don't do the same job at all. He might play instead of Wickham, but were that the case we'd have different requirements from our one up top. There is room for both types of player in a top level squad. BTW I don't want Austin and never have. But I wouldn't mind that sort of striker (a pure goalscorer) being added.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Agreed.
A dependable finisher is essential for where we are heading. Once goals from the defenders dry up and chances go begging it will ensure we pick up vital points in games that would otherwise get away from us.

The Palace boss told a press conference on Thursday that he would not be making a move, with the club’s activity in general to be limited ahead of Tuesday’s 5pm deadline. We’ll be prepared for the phone to call. We don’t envisage making too many calls ourselves and that’s probably where we are.’
Earlier on Thursday chairman Steve Parish had indicated that there would be ‘one or two’ moves in and out of Selhurst Park.

You could read this as Palace have made an offer for Charlie Austin , and it has been left with QPR to give us a call
