cpfc 2010 please please please think about sean o driscol at donny , i just think the guy would fit palace like a hand and glove. the guy is very very astute , and he only knows how to play football the correct way. also i think we as a club should do everything we can to get keith curle back as our defence certainly miss his guidance and knoledge. thanks for your time again and all the best

Steve

I appreciate this is not the topic at the moment but I'm more concerned with the long term, ground (pref new) etc, any long term plans? Surely some one like big Sam ( break the bank ) is the way forward to get us some football stability and then kick on from there? The sacking of GB seems to be a poor decision to employ him in the first place; we have suffered this for a number of decades. Please don't go the MG route and employ God or anyone else from the heart, we need a business plan, where is it ?

Steve, just a couple of questions that I dont think have been answered or asked for that matter.

1. Would Gary Issott and the academy management ever be given thought when appointing the new boss, having been so successful?

2. What had George put the poor start of the season down to? Lack of resources/luck or did he admit that he and the team were doing something wrong?

Much as I love Coppell to comeback to Palace its not going to happen as I recall he has now retired from football management, we need to move forward now and not go 20 years back.
I would like a young fresh manager like the Hughton`s or Howe`s to be giving the chance.
Remember Steve Coppell first came to Selhurst aged 28, we have a good squad of players but not fulfiling their potential at times and tomorrow the players now have to stand and be counted in our quest to stay in this league.

It was Warnocks last job in football.....

Things change

Paul seriously do you honestly think Coppell is the right man for us, I don`t.

Well, maybe he isn't the right choice. But I am saying that things can change in football. He is an option to consider if he is interested and there is no better option.

Steve,

I have been watching Palace for over 30 years and was embarrased at Millwall watching our Team lack ideas and passion that the game deserved. I know that you don't sack managers lightly although in the modern game it seems expected when things are not going well. I do hope that we can turn this around and believe the players on paper as individuals are better than our league position. But it is clear to see that we need a STRIKER (not had one since AJ and Morrison) Midfield is now lacking width despite the players at the managers disposal?? Defence - Lacks consistency and understanding - We need a leader and I am afraid that we don't have one at the Back!!

I hope that Dougie is an instant success and am sure that he can shake things up on Monday! Good Luck with your search for a new Manager. My fear is that we need stability not wholesale changes (which a new man may demand)?!

What he said. Best manager available by a million miles and would care as much about getting it right as anyone else on this board.

Hi Steve. Given that you have been receiving applications will you be looking to select candidates from these applications or do you plan to approach anyone even if they have not formally applied for the job?

Hi again CPFC 2010,

this is related to the manager discussion so a valid question I'd say:

apart from a manager are you taking this opportunity to look at the management structure in terms of what other personnel are needed for the first team? ie a fitness coach and defensive coach at least are something we definitely need some inspiration in right now

Also - Sam Allardyce (who incidentally I wouldn't want here as a manager) is renowned for the methodical approach he takes to all aspects of a player - fitness, diet, mental health, cutting edge sports science etc.. I don't like his football but he's ahead of a lot of other coaches in that respect.

Do you think this could be applied at palace in the new setup? Apologies if it is already just seems like we need some inspiration..

To SW2Eagle - you are talking utter rubbish. There was no decimated squad and Burley had ample support from the board to bolster it. His signings in general have been poor and he clearly lost the players. When should he have been sacked? When we are 15 points adrift at the bottom?

Finally, who cares if Steve Parish answers selectively? Do you not understand that what is said may be sensitive information and as a chairman some things have to remain private. You should be grateful he has taken the time to answer questions on here at all - and until 2am!

Penge - I care if he answers selectively - and so do a few other astute posters. You are welcome to your opinion, but if Mr Parish is going to come onto the forum (which I've told him I appreciate) he must be prepared to answer the questions posed. I've provided my comments in this respect, and will not go over them again.

If you bother to read the posts properly, you'll see that I also understand that some questions cannot be answered - this is not my concern, but there are certainly some that deserve an answer. I've mentioned Syd's already - somebody else asked why Danns only found out about the sacking via Twitter. A valid question and a concerning issue.

As stated, I stand by my view and hope to be proved wrong.

With regard to the squad - my point has only been answered by relying on a pedantic and slightly archaic definition of 'decimated' - rather than by answering the question properly. To clarify - our squad has been vastly reduced in key areas. We have lost Hill, Derry, Fonte, Butterfield, Moses, Ertl, Lee - and that's before the long-term injuries. There are probably more, but I'm not going to wast any more time justifying myself to you.

You are clearly unhappy that Burley has been sacked and feel the need to pick holes in what SP has to say. We fought long and hard to avoid dropping to League One last season and don't want to do it again. I'm happy the board have shown some gumption and made a strong decision on this. Preston are one place below us and sacked Ferguson this week. So they are wrong to have sacked him too?

If you bother to read SP's posts properly you will see that Burley was given ample time and funds to improve the so called "decimated" squad and he did not.

It's not up to the chairmen to inform the players of the sacking. If you knew anything about football, you would know that it's the job of the football manager. If Burley did not want to tell the players, then how is that SP's fault. Do you expect him to ring Danns or each squad member up individually?

In this instance, backing a Mickey Mouse manager or a group of fans who run our club and seem to know what they want for the club's best interests in the short and long term, then I'm behind the board.

The league table does not lie. A chairman coming on a forum to speak to the fans should be welcomed...

You have clearly not read the reasoned debate I've had with Hambo and others regarding this.

To answer you point briefly, as I'm pretty much done on this topic:

If the manager's been sacked - then it is very much up to the Chairman to make sure that the players are informed in a proffessional manner.

The answers to the squad, budget and timescale questions were far from satisfactory, as many a reasonable poster has agreed. It is a simple fact that our squad was thinned out significantly by administration.

No, the league table does not lie. It has us where we deserve to be, and where many of us predicted we'd be at the start of the season. I still don't know why we're now surprised to be struggling.

Ferguson - arguably unlucky. Managers just are not given sufficient time to do their jobs properly these days. We've given ours a very limited buget as well as very limited time. Personally, I'm disappointed.

I'm well aware that plenty of people disagree with me -and that does not bother me in the slightest. What annoys me is that fact that you and a couple of others seem to think that it is somehow out of order to challenge our board when they make themselves available. What exactly would it achieve to sit here in awe of them praise every decsion they make? Nothing - and it would render their participation in questions and answer sessions completely pointless.

We're all grateful for what CPFC2010 has done in saving our club - this does not mean that we now stop taking an interest and just assume that every decision they make is a correct or progressive one.

Like everyone, I hope that this decision turns out to be for the benefit of our club. So far, I think the comments posted and attributed to Neil Ashton, whilst they are just opinion, represent the best possible reason to look to replace Burley. If it is true that he was not focused, for whatever reason, then fair enough. The board, however, have not said this.

I think this is a reasoned point of view and one worth responding to.

I come on here to interact with the fans about out club that I am currently responsible for (with my co chairman, owners and chief exec).

I feel that the fans have a right to know as much as is reasonable and that doesn't compromise our position or competitiveness as a club or cause another person embarrassment. Yesterday was a fairly big event in the scheme of crystal Palace, I felt you had the right to know why and what the plan is. I didn’t come into this to sack managers, I like George a lot and we all wanted more than anything for him to succeed.

I could talk to the press, answer their questions and you could read it there but in a modern world with such amazing tools at our disposal why wouldn't I come on here and answer the questions of the people that care. Also very importantly gauge the mood and get ideas. The press pick up on it anyway and as such it kills two birds.

How many times as a fan did I have an idea and have no way of voicing it. This is an amazing environment and it seems crazy not to use it to talk directly to you.

Because very importantly I believe that I am accountable to you all. Maybe that’s’ not been the norm but that’s how we all feel.

Do I think it might drive interest and support for the club as well, Yes I certainly hope that this is a kind of unique access that is part of what can set us apart so in that context I guess there is a PR element to it. We could have taken fans on the board but why do that in the modern era when you can all get to me/us in this way and each and everyone of you can have a voice.

You will help form and shape this club as we move forward. Its already happening over loads of issues and small improvements but also all the player ideas, ticketing everything we look at all of them.

In that context, censorship is most certainly not required, I am more than capable of working out the agendas that people may have and factoring that into their views. I’ve already got a few peoples cards marked

If I come on here to answer selected questions then what would be the point, sometimes it moves very fast like last night and I miss some but I do try to answer them all, maybe someone could post a synopsis at certain points to save people reading the whole thread. I always quote the question or point I am responding to so maybe a mod could just cut my posts and post as a reference somewhere which would save repeated questions and people feeling they weren’t answered. I’ll also try to be clearer at the start what I wont respond to.

I feel sorry that some think I am not being candid or I am dodging topics. I really think I am meeting everything head on and being clear what I can and can’t comment on. I am really happy to clear up anything that still concerns people over this.

If we weren't talking on here, we would just have the press in between us surely that just makes it worse. Why wouldn’t I talk to you first before the press.

While we are on the subject of the press, The Neil would that be the same Neil Ashton that ran the story in the News of the world that I/we had met Alan Pardew for the managers job some months ago ?

Finally No I didn't go to the dressing room before the game .

Steve,

A question for you for tomorrows game with Preston now that Steve Kember is back, will he be assisting with Dougie?

Edited by Juveagles (02 Jan 2011 10.49pm)

No Dean Austins assisting , Steve is back scouting
