The quicker we are out the better we will be I am sure of that. With others to follow soon after I would imagine.

These negotiations are going to take years. One announcement from the EU does not denote that they 'have us by the short and curlies'. This is a union of 27 countries, all with different relationships with the UK and different agendas to pursue. Keeping that together as one united bloc, is going to be one massive job for Tusk, something they haven't managed in the past. Far to early for your hubris, Michael.

No they do not, they have to get around the table with us and thrash out a deal. If not I am afraid it will be a very hard Brexit. Its not all on their side as it is a two sided deal that has to be made. Theresa May has to stick to her guns and I know that the other 20 odd countries will give way on lots of their requests as they do a lot of business with us and do not want us to leave without a decent deal. Some of them will weaken very quickly when they find out they might have to pay more for our goods and we go elsewhere to buy goods. Its not as clear cut as you might think.

At the moment it's possible to arrange a meeting in Paris in the morning and be there for it in the afternoon. A visa system would slow things right down. We'd lose a certain amount of dynamism.

Visa free for 1 year etc..gives all people from EU and UK enough time to apply or even make a new system where companies have a corporate visa and and all employees are covered under a company type visa for working.

I don't think may has a clue on Brexit? The EU are laughing at her. Time for someone else to take the reigns.

Posturing. Juncker being a bit of a dick. I would suggest he is misreading the situation re Britain too. I voted remain, I wasn't 100% sure as I felt the EU had illustrated all the reasons why leaving would be a good idea by refusing to deal with Cameron and then pretty much gloating about it. By threatening the UK, there will be many people in the middle ground who will harden their attitude to Europe and potentially give May more backing It has also undermined Corbyn's and Fallon's position regarding negotiations as they are pretty much saying that it will not be a single agreement but made up of many over time. Therefore a referendum on a deal is impossible.

Therefore a referendum on a deal is impossible. So true, but this is a zero sum game for the likes of Juncker. From his position he needs to make BRExit so penal that nobody else risks leaving. For example a Frexit even Greece would spell the end of a western union.... leaving small countries and eastern European states. He needs it, I see the Italian Government , for once, does not have the money to bail out Alitalia, EU finances are at present " tricky". For Junker, countries such as his, have historical had an over disproportional impact on the EU. Then again in the 70s and 80s they realised the way the tide was turning while the average Brit still laughed at the EU votes, and myths about bananas. Edited by pefwin (01 May 2017 9.28pm)
