On the Greek Cypriot side. There is no 'Turkish side'. It's known as the occupied zone in the north. I have no ties to Cyprus but wanted to see what it was like. Seems very pleasant, easy going, fantastic fruit & vegetables which are very cheap. It's a generally quiet country. Can't get to the north as the checkpoints are closed to to covid.

I don't know much about it, but it's always seemed quite an interesting history.

Yep, I hear good things about Cyprus, lots of people give it kudos as a holiday....ah a foreign holiday...almost forgotten what it is.

Love Cyprus, lived there for 18 months from July 1961. Last time I visited ( a few years ago) seemed to be overrun with Russians still a nice place to visit, lots of history

As an experienced man at the border Spider what did you hear as the top holiday spots? Did you go to them all?

Last proper two week holiday I had was a med cruise....There are always more Germans and Americans than you'd expect.

The problem I had was, seeing some of the Brits coming back from places, it really puts you off going!!
Personally I love Bali, went there on honeymoon. Closer to home, away from the tourist track, Madeira.
My last holiday abroad, pre- lockdown, was an all inclusive to Mexico, really good value

Did a med cruise many years ago with Thomsons there were only Brits on board ( not always a good thing!)

Not at all, I have quite a few friends/colleagues in the UK, some were traveling and on their return got stuck for hours at Heathrow. Their view wouldn't be accepted on forum based on the abject disinterest from immigration staff they had to endure for 5-6 hours, utter chaos. Yes and there was the media, backing up the real experiences that thousands had to put up with.

There is good and bad in every walk of life. I have worked with some very unpleasant people but to tie every BF Officer with the same brush is totally wrong. A lot of the problems at Heathrow stemmed from Heathrow Airport Authority not wanting to play ball, regarding opening another Terminal, just trying to save money. BF not entirely blameless but nothing to do with shortage of staff... fact. Unfortunately for the travelling public BF staff have to comply with social distancing along with everyone else, even if that does not suit those travelling during a pandemic

Think about Florida, you have to be prepared to drive but so much more than theme parks. Great climate, spent some time in Fort Myers Beach, saw dolphins in the wild, easy drive to Everglades and day trip to Keys

Strange thing is that all staff at Heathrow (and arriving travelers) were wearing masks but none of the immigration staff were seen to be wearing any. Not a good example at all.

Was always full of Aussies every time I've been.

The guidance for BF staff was, if you are working behind a screen ( which desks are) you should not wear masks. Presumably your friends can confirm that the desks had screens. Any passenger will have been required to remove their mask at the desk
or whilst utilising the egates. There is always an explanation, if only people would ask before criticising.
