I heard today Southern have come up with a solution for drivers, regarding the s***ty CCTV. My ex colleague says it's not a long term solution, but hope it may be enough to suspend strikes, they also wanna tie in the new working practices with a long term pay deal (for the duration of the franchise).

My guess is, Southern may use some kind of agency staff.. or ask drivers to exit cabs at stations and walk back and manually lock the coach doors that are obscured on the CCTV.

Hopefully union will accept this.

Trust between the two is at all time low. Fingers crossed.

The CCTV can't be that bad, yes I have seen the shots you posted, as my train driver asked the person in the purple hoodie to either move in or get off the train or he would put the train out of service. Must be shocking CCTV he had

Off course they're all of the same standard aren't they. The weather is the same every day. The light is the same 24 hrs a day. It's so simple isn't it. The nasty train drivers are striking and costing themselves a lot of money for nothing aren't they. Of course. Have you told anyone else about this?

Correct. It's too variable to be a reliable aid to the driver. It seems the company have now accepted that, we'll see how the unions accept the new proposals. My guess they'll want assurances of staff at unstaffed platforms late at night, Southern will arrange agency staff until the units cctv is upgraded.

That I can see as quite a big ask - on my line (obviously I can only speak for what I know) there's nobody on the platform after Oxted. That's nine stations, no staff, one train an hour in each direction (double that in peak times). So that's nine extra staff (minimum), dispatching two trains an hour.

Not disputing the reasons for the requirement, just can't see (assuming that pattern is repeated across other parts of the network) that that will be any cheaper than having a guard on the train (dispatching the train he's on from each station - probably 12 dispatches an hour).

Simple maths says it's cheaper to retain the guards (add into that what you've been saying about safety concerns and it ceases to make any sense at all to me to dispense with the guards)

One cctv camera is good, ergo they are all good.

There are some bad muslims, ergo we should demonise the whole lot of them

Is there an end of season award for bringing the most unrelated and irrelevant topic round to Islamic fundamentalism?

So someone flooding the page with photos, which really should be handed over to Southern, stating the CCTV is bad is ok but someone pointing out that they aren't all as bad as someone is trying to state is wrong?

Not only are they costing themselves money, they are costing passengers money (myself included). I couldn't give a flying f*** about the drivers or conductors, I care about getting to and from work.

Managed to make a journey today that I've had to put off since Thursday.

Some of the more regular sufferers seem to have adapted a few of Southern rails posters.

Related by taking incidents and extrapolating them to represent the whole.
