We are leaving the EU...We still have a skills based economy heavy on financial services. It's more about intent than the details. Trump is certainly more pro British than Obama ever was...just as the right are in general more pro the nation state than the left. The modern day left have done more for foreigners than the British working class.....It's mostly why they have abandoned the party.

Yes we are leaving the EU but that is it nobody knows what our future trading arrangements will be. If it becomes known the USA and UK may both want a trade deal but that may be years ahead. It is a surprise actually as the Germans were not in favour of TIPP viewing it as unworkable. Left or right each Brit is as patriotic as he feels they all turned up in the war. Donald Trump is not coming to Mrs May's rescue that doesn't mean he is not a friend.

But they rarely give a damn about that because national pride is an illusion to them. Edited by Stirlingsays (22 Apr 2017 2.58pm) And yet you have voted for something which is almost certainly going to make so many worse off through increased foodstuff costs and for a very likely economic downturn which, in turn, means less tax revenue for public services. And that will be the tip of the Brexit iceberg. Thanks very much for your 'pride' and 'patriotism' from all those that will hit negatively by it. With friends like you and your ilk the UK doesn't need enemies. And "Trump won't betray Britain" ?- Emotive claptrap from a sentimentalist. He will do what he thinks is in his and the US's best interests. Notice i put 'his' first. Edited by Kermit8 (22 Apr 2017 6.47pm)

There were very few people who could be described as being from the 'progressive' left back when this country fought a world war.

I value that notion more than just money. I hope and expect that we can do well....but I believe in the nation state. Hell... you consider yourself Scottish.....Even though you won't sodding live there and as I remember you supported Scottish independence on these forums.....Well that's an outcome that would have almost certainly have resulted in Scotland being worse off. Yet you supported it.....Money didn't seem to matter so much then did it? And then you have the cheek to type that up. At least I am consistent. Hypocrite.

Donald Trump is not coming to Mrs May's rescue that doesn't mean he is not a friend. I do agree that it's all to play for. Also, I agree that Trump puts his own country's interests first....hell he should. However, it's obvious that all things being equal he has a preference for this country....Which is more than we can say for Obama. Apparently his officials use to s****** at the term 'special relationship'. Well, we don't get that anymore. I hope we get something done...In fact I'm sure we will have something sorted around 2020. This is a trading nation with vast links both historical and commercial. Our reputation is better than most. So we are better placed than most. Little of that is down to the left of course. The ideological left rarely push this country forward in terms of trade. Lots of them complain while asking those who do make money for tax handouts.
