I will be very surprised if Southgate does not 'Fall on his sword'.
I believe the 'Curtain is coming down' on his England management career.

Indeed we reached the final but we were well defeated and throughout the tournament we were far from impressive.

A major disappointment has been Harry Kane and perhaps his England career has ended.Jude Bellingham has been heralded but apart from that stunning goal he has been well below par.

I noticed against Germany and France, Spain struggled in the latter part of the game. When we equalised I thought the game was for the taking. But like 3 years ago we failed to take the initiative and went cautious again.

Needs a manager prepared to release the shackles and realise that Bellingham, Foden, Eze and Palmer all are best in the same position so we only need 2 if them in the squad.

Kane looks gone at international level and Declan Rice is not as good as the reputation. Can sometimes break up the play but is one dimensional playing short sideways passes and offers nothing going forward. Wharton is technically a far better player.

Southgate needs to step down. His record is good, but that is as much by luck. He is not a winner.

I can't help feeling that game was for the taking and Southgate got it all wrong. Same tactics, same personnel and everything left too late. We needed something different for the final but didn’t get it. Sadly, there was only one team on the pitch and our eleven England players. In order for England to progress beyond lacklustre second best Gareth really has to move on.

He's supposed to be the best player in Spain, but last night he was way inferior to every Spaniard on the pitch. Funny that! Foden was poor too and Mainoo - predicted by Wayne Rooney to be the star of the final - was hopeless.

Kane, Bellingham, Foden, Rice. Bayern's top striker, Real Madrid's star man, Man City's golden boy and Arsenal's title challenging captain. We saw shadows or very different versions of these players at the tournament.

Also, I've not seen it pointed out elsewhere, but both Spanish goals came down Kyle Walker's side. I thought he was very poor too.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Not upset as much as the italy loss - that was the one we really should of won.

Beaten by the better team, not even sure southgate was much to blame as he has been before - a lot of the players just didnt turn up.

Must say I thought Luke Shaw was class.

Declan Rice, is the common denominator in a midfield that can never keep the ball - but thats been a problem for england for the last 40 years

I do like southgate and yes I know hes tactically inept - not sure who we get to replace him? Howe? Potter?

The spain manager was an unknown before this tournament having been promoted from the 18's to the 21s to the senior team.

My viewpoint entirely whilst adding that Cucurella has not sparkled at Chelsea yet he has been acclaimed as being the best left-back at the tournament.

Spain were a joy to watch with their 'Pressing, energy, vibrancy and their movement, alas England looked like plodders and very much second best on the night.

Also to add, the club tribalism from the big clubs fan is pathetic after last night

So glad I support a club thats never really won anything!

Chelsea fans slag Saka and Foden off, Newcastle fans think Gordon was the answer, Arsenal Fans will berate foden, United fans think mainoo is the saviour, Arsenals & Chelsea fans call Kane every name under the sun.

Yes i think Wharton could of made a difference but the negativity and vitriol from certain clubs supporters is horrible.

Southgate has been brilliant for the national team but he is not a good coach or tactician and we have all said it.
Beaten by the better team last night but we could have done better.
I feel sorry for Bellingham - he needed a rest - he is only 21 years old and played every game - Southgate has done him no favours even if he is a manboy.
New Manager please who has a tactical plan.
Sir Alf dropped Jimmy Greaves for goodness sake and won the world cup but GS couldn't bring himself to drop Kane.
I am not blaming Kane for this but read - maybe here - that in the two finals he played 180 mins, had one shot on target and one touch in the OPPO box.
Maybe factually incorrect but on his days he is way better than that, so is that his fault, or our system under Southgate?

I think the Kane conundrum is a bit of both - fitness and a system.

When we played spain 4 years ago in the nations league away, we had rashford and Sterling running in behind which allowed kane to drop deep and play through balls and get us in behind. - we won that game and he got 3 assists.

This tournament Saka, Foden, Bellingham or whoever else it is always wants the ball to feet and we had zero runners in behind.

Having said that, he clearly wasnt 100% fit.

Watkins hardly made an impact coming on though did he, which probably speaks volumes more of the overall tactics.

What you've described above is par for the course where football fans are concerned, and has been for years, exacerbated by the internet. Had a Brighton player been in the England team and put in a mediocre performance like most of those you've mentioned, you can bet your life that Palace fans would be giving him abuse.

This is open to debate.

Statistically, his record is impressive however one has to delve into the minutiae as to who England have actually played during his reign. His record against the top teams is nothing to crow about.

In the final analysis, under Southgate England have reached two European Championship finals but lost them both, one of them at Wembley.A third place in the Nations League is not an outstanding achievement !

In the latest tournament, I would suggest that had England been in the other half of the draw they would not have reached the final.

I very much suspect that last night was the last time we see Southgate in the England dugout and I believe that in the main supporters will not be shedding tears when he departs.

Southgate is a very decent human being,he is a gentleman of articulacy who conducts himself with dignity, charm and modesty and I wish him all the very best.
I just do not subscribe to the view that his record with England can be filed under 'Brilliant'.
