I am very happy with this appointment. It was much riskier going with an unknown quantity. It is very difficult to name someone else at this moment who we could get and do a better job than Roy.

As I said on here before it was always going to be Roy and Ray as it's the cheapest option both in terms of wages and ambition. A one year contract honestly what is the point?? Why are we delaying the inevitable? We have had since March to identify targets. He came in and the new manager bounce worked. We beat some poor teams and struggled as soon as we faced anyone above mid table so next season will be interesting. Of course I'll support the team. I just find this appointment on a one year contract massively underwhelming and if I'm honest totally pointless as it's just delaying it for another season.
He is the cheap option because he will put the owners under zero pressure to invest in the squad and will happily just manage whatever he is given. I also have minimal faith that the attacking style of play which we saw in the final months of the season will continue once he's here for the longer term. Would love to hear SP explain why he's the right manager to lead the club forward now, if he wasn't two years ago. A season of 35% possession awaits.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

Roy and Ray made great use of the flair players already here. We've already made a great acquisition in Lerma. Since we only have one striker atm in Edouard I'm confident that at least one decent young striker will come in? There's a long way to go in the transfer window, and I think we have to be patient

We are never going to be top 6 so I really don't know what else we can do but play it safe . If not Roy then who, not as if there is a que of top managers to pick from is there ?

Can't say I'm surprised by this news, probably expecting it. I suspect that Parish and co have had a look at the managers out there and didn't think any of them would be a good fit. At least it now gives us another year to see if a suitable manager comes up. Roy has the squad make mid table again, maybe even sneak into the top 10. Lots of people saying that all he did last season was beat the sides in the lower half. Well, that's you need to do to survive, anything is a bonus for us.

Wasn’t Rodgers on something like 12 million a year at Leicester and Potter probably something similar at Chelsea. We can’t afford these managers no matter how much we may desire them. When Roy was last manager we had no proper investment on players, the defence and midfield were painfully slow and he knew it, that’s why he played a defensive, low block. Now we are on the right track, buying good young players and this is how it has to continue. The money bounded about by literally all the other teams is obscene. Let’s carry on doing our thing, it’s exciting and working!

We had the same problem before Vieira was appointed. At least two higher profile managers walked away and rumours this time are that we have been turned down by out-of-work managers with Premier League experience. Hodgson will at least get on with the job and work with what's here. He has also shown he is flexible enough to adapt the team's style of play to the resources available. Finally, if we are still a PL club this time next year then yes we will face the same dilemma unless there has been a significant change in ownership before then.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

It's a pragmatic decision that reinforces my belief that "we aint got any money". I don't expect us to have a big transfer window, nothing has changed since Textor joined the board. The 2 billionaires want out so will not want to spend. Textor wants to spend but is it his money or does he want to put the club more in debt. Parish doesn't have the funds and is cautious so will not allow us to go deeply into debt. Until we have a change of ownership each window will be the same the odd bargain signing and only buying when forced to. Actually I am okay with that just look at Everton and how much they have wasted on rubbish players.
