The bankers, financiers and corporational class run the politicians because they fund them and own the media. Whatever modern day democracy is will be run for their interest until that changes.....and in truth even a directional change would only be in ideology as essentially elites will remain in charge regardless. Democracy is largely a myth if your choices are restricted to A: 'I support how things are run' or B: 'I support changing how things are run a little bit'. This is why the establishment hated the referendum, because it actually offered a binary choice with very different outcomes and it only happened because Cameron felt forced and was sure he'd win....so in effect political narcissism. It was a rare instance of actual democracy deciding a genuine directional path against the establishment....which is why it's unlikely a choice, between something they want and something they don't, will be offered again. I've become rather disaffected with democracy as the establishment clearly doesn't have my interests at heart. I want an Orbán in charge, but I might as well whistle dixie.

If it's insignificant, then whatever decisions are made are an irrelevance. Old people keeping a low profile, it would seem, was a rather good decision. We may want to ask those who now have a significant amount of protection, I'm sure they'll agree. And at least they are alive to be asked in the first place. This 'when you've gotta go, you've gotta go' stuff is always on someone elses behalf. Quote Do nothing. Let old people do nothing until they die. Nobody do anything. A species killing itself. All for what? A vaccine every year. Until the next virus. C-19 + Flu already, plus... what? Another variant? Another virus different? Lock down some more?
If you can stop your Y fronts blasting off in panic for a couple more months, it appears likely that we'll gradually be opening back up. I wasn't exactly craving being locked down right now either, but it is what it is. The vaccine is so far a resounding success. We should celebrate that. The yearly flu jab saves countless lives every year, as will the covid jab, even in a worst case scenario where mutations may spread in between. Having a couple of jabs a year really isn't something to get up in arms about, I've had more than that prior to a trip abroad. Thoughts that we may end up being injected like some kind of perpetual pin cushion don't really have any basis in reality. It's not been a wonderful year - it hasn't for me workwise - but my thoughts are predominantly with those who have died, and celebrating the science behind those who now have more than a fighting chance. We're in decent shape and we go forward them here. From the ultra negative tone some perpetually strike you'd be half forgiven for imagining that they're primed on the edge of their seat waiting for some kind of horrendous turn of events so that they can say "told you so". As I say, I prefer to place my hope in science, and the sacrifice already made by so many. We're on the path we're on; let's make the best of it. Edited by BlueJay (23 Feb 2021 6.53am) f*** me you spout some s***! Saving life is fine, I'm not averse to that. But not at the expense of others. It used to be 'women and children first', but now it's old and vulnerable first. Sod everyone else. "You! Stop having a life for a year or so, we need to save the dying first". So we all wait while the vaccine gets rolled out. And we all die a bit (ie closer to death). All while the virus evolves around all our defences. BTW, I'm not panicking, that appears to be you, who constantly reads everything about the virus and posts it here. Also, I don't wear Y-fronts, and I have no interest about your plans to travel abroad. Why do you keep posting irrelevent guff?

It's pleasing to see that you're mellowing. Quote

All while the virus evolves around all our defences. It's not 'old and vulnerable first' (why wouldn't the vulnerable be a health priority?) so much that this virus clearly impacts the elderly above and beyond others, and in a more profound way aka death. I've already stated that I believe they should've primarily concentrated on shielding the elderly rather than the current approach, but decisions are made as we go in a developing situation. We were in no way prepared for this pandemic. You should not so lightly dismiss our elderly. Legitimising that by demeaning these people as 'the dying' is an unfortunate dehumanisation of tens of thousands of people who clearly were in no way 'dying' before covid struck. Quote I have no interest about your plans to travel abroad. Why do you keep posting irrelevent guff?
You were hyperventilating about the idea that we may soon have two vaccinations a year and where that might lead. I was comforting you in your fragile state to reassure you that having a couple of vaccines here or there (either for health or travel purposes) is a normal and mundane event. Quote BTW, I'm not panicking, that appears to be you, who constantly reads everything about the virus and posts it here.
I have for the most part been posting vaccine data, so on the whole good news. The informative rather than the inane. You have been working yourself into a "species killing itself!!" frenzy and have mentally buried the living by declaring them 'the dying', such is your feeling of animosity towards them and the strategies put in place to protect them. All said on the same day that we have a plan to come out of lockdown anyway. If you're called up for the vaccine will you have it? By your attitudes I would assume not.
