I am not sure why all our strikers over the past few years have been universally condemned for lack of goals. Sorloth, Benteke, Wickham plus Murray and Gayle before them are all 'rubbish' ? Surely the root cause of the dearth of goals is not lack of ability by the strikers but rather the hopeless inadequacy of our midfield ? An ability to hold and pass the ball is something our current midfield so obviously lack - a shocking fact that is embarrassing. Kane, Ronaldo, Bale would all struggle with the lack of service provided. Give Meyer and McCarthy an extended run and we will start to score again. Wickham perhaps is our most able forward but he is always injured. Benteke still has it and I think Sorloth, potentially, could be the best of them all. To condemn him and the others for shortcomings elsewhere is perverse.

Ill put my tin hat on now before I say that I cant believe the adulation that Ayew is getting. 4 goals is not exactly chart breaking and the rest of the time he runs round looking hard done too all the time (must have learnt that from the very disappointing Zaha) And to still have Wickham and Benteke chewing up a huge part of the wage bill is just incredulous. I know they have potential but how long can we wait. I reckon its time to jettison those two and use that money more wisely ... I also think Zaha is clearly not interested any more at being at Palace and that's fine ... but move him on too. Thats about 300k a week freed up and wouldn't really leave much of a gap. Thoughts?

Don't think anyone suggests we should rely on Ayew alone, but his performances this season have been good - pressures defenders, tracks back, holds the ball up surprisingly well. Compare that to the subject of this thread, who showed a complete lack of effort or interest every minute he was in a Palace shirt. Get rid along with Benteke.

I don't think it was a lack of effort or interest, I just don't think he was (and may never be) ready for the PL. Lewington could be heard literally telling him where to run to during games and he often ended up running into corners and getting in the way. He is a big, strong bloke, so with the right training he could possibly be coached into a useful player, but really at his age you would expect more.

You're right.. the fact we are having to rely on Ayew for our goal threat is beyond a joke for a premier league club like ourselves. What you cannot fault Jordan for is his hard work and commitment. He actually also has excellent close control and brings others into the game as good as anyone we have. He would strive with someone along side him. With regards to Sorloth, unless we have other irons in the fire (does anyone really believe this, and that we will pull it off) I would consider the option of bringing him back if their was one. I doubt Alex would want to come back in fairness. But we all know football is a confidence game so if hes improved why wouldnt bring him back. Whats the worse that could happen, the expectation is pretty low striker wise at Palace anyway. From his time at Palace he certainly didnt look PL quality but he wouldnt be the first to go somewhere else and pick his game up. I just do not have any faith in Palace getting signings over the line and the even less faith in Roy actually putting them in the team. Edited by MonsterMunch (18 Nov 2019 9.20am)

12 goals in 23 games this season for club and country. Players can be different beasts with confidence.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

You might say that even Benteke or Wickham would score against Malta but even so perhaps the Norwegian midfield Said many times even best strikers in the world won't score unless they get the ball and until we use what creative midfielders we do have (Meyer, Camarasa, McCarthy) our goals for tally is going to be stay the worst of any PL team.

Sørloth has scored in 3 matches in a row now for Norway - it is ten years since a player did that! Let us have him back in january and give him a new chance.
