Such a surprise result. Anyone who saw that coming must be a genius! I was in a pub with my daughter's fiancee on Sunday night and I mentioned to him that I just had the feeling that the Conservatives would gain an overall majority. He looked at me quizzically and thought I had taken leave of my senses ! In rather more 'Bullish' mood on Wednesday I repeated this message more emphatically to my dear wife and she was also of this opinion !!!! I told her that on the back of an economic recovery I just could NOT see how the polls were right and I was getting a much more positive message when I was out campaigning in marginals. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC ! Need to get to bed early tonight as I have been up all night !!!!

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

I am so loving the lefty tropes coming out since Labour's defeat. The latest one: They lost because of a Murdoch media conspiracy.

I am so loving the lefty tropes coming out since Labour's defeat. The latest one: They lost because of a Murdoch media conspiracy. The lead was of a magnitude that to do that would be foolish. Everything factors in though. The written press was hugely against Miliband and didn't pull any punches. There is no Murdoch 'conspiracy' because it's transparent, it was all opinion, no news. The day before the election the first 'ten' pages of the Sun were anti Labour without exception. They also printed you'd be better off 'letting Jimmy Saville babysit your kids' than voting for Labour. UKIP got it in the neck a lot too due to worries about splitting the vote, but it's hard to trump telling the public that voting for a specific party is worse than a leaving your kids with a pedo.

Gussett bombarded us with pro-TUSC propaganda, but did all of the HOL go out and vote for them? The electorate make up their own minds, all the nonsense in the media makes little difference.

BBC Any Questions going on about the poor and disabled having to 'despair'. That's one guarantee of a tory majority: ceaseless bleating about the 'vulnerable'. Not sure I can take 5 years of it.
How could the electorate be so stupid, or knowingly wicked, to vote for a government that will ceaselessly batter the vulnerable (isn't that in contravention of one of the many clauses of the Human Rights Act?) Edited by derben (09 May 2015 1.27pm)
Good - they are going to replace it with a British Bill of Rights (no doubt with a clause in it to stop ceaseless battering of the vulnerable.
That's not the point. The point is we should frame and manage our own laws.

Gussett bombarded us with pro-TUSC propaganda, but did all of the HOL go out and vote for them? The electorate make up their own minds, all the nonsense in the media makes little difference. Something tells me that Gussetts opinion on HOL holds a bit less sway than newspapers read by millions of people. The very existence of entire blocks of dubious coverage like this as a tactic suggests that they think it works. As with anything, it's not that this makes all the difference or makes none. Not everything exists on an extreme. Like everything in life it's a factor. Edited by imbored (09 May 2015 7.59pm)

Sorry mate, but you are seriously deluded if you believe the media have little influence on people's views and outlook when it comes to voting.
