No, I understand quite well how football transfers work! How very patronising of you. Dazza said Wilf was re-signing for us and there would be an announcement to that effect last week. That, like so many other claims, was clearly totally wrong. I expect Palace did expect him to sign, but for some reason he choose Turkey. It will come out in time, why he rejected our offer. So, I dont think Dazza at the time of his post was wrong, but football business is very changeable, maybe he was over enthusiastic.

When Steve said, "Don't worry Wilf Gray is on his way and we've got Lerma - we might lose a couple but you're sorted. Reidewald and Mateta likely to play more of a role this season, don't forget that." then this is what happened.

Brazilian transfer window allegedly closes on 4th August. This doesn’t mean they can’t still sell Franca to us after this date but obviously means they will be less reluctant to let him go with no opportunity to replace him you would imagine. Luckily however the deal is completed

I think most concerning is that coming into the window there were areas that needed urgent strengthening, full backs, strikers and I would like to see another centre back and yet as per usual, with just over 2 weeks left, we have lost more than we have gained. Optimistic goggles on says Jairo and JRS can play a part but action is needed. One day our transfer poker tactics will leave us heading down.

It was a similar situation last year, this year there is the added loss of Wilf. Last year nothing was done until January . We hoped to progress from a good previous season but that took the spark out of the side. And couldn’t have helped Viera, whether you think he could ,should have done better. As it is I shouldn’t think they will not recruit, but then I thought that last year and nothing happened. Someone has said this is going to be ROY make do part two, and right now they could be right.

Jimenez signs for Fulham for £5m How did we miss that one? I know he's 32 but £5m?

"Carry on". How many times have we done this in (say) the last five years? Come on YT, you are arguing semantics here. We never had the players before to do this however it has started with AWB and we now have Olise, Eze, Doucoure, Guehi, Andersen and Johnstone, all worth way more than their acquisition cost. We had to start somewhere with a buy low, sell high policy and it looks like it is now moving in the right direction.

In the 51 years I've supported this club, we've had a dreadful record when it comes to selling players for more than we've paid for them. I guess it just reflects the mediocrity that we inevitably drift towards, although other clubs seem to do it a lot better. Incidentally we didn't buy AWB cheap, we developed him. Sorry to be pedantic again!
