Sure – but realistically how many people have had both at the same time? I'd be interested to know those figures. Would be surprised if they made up a significant portion of the case count, seems an unusual scenario... also you'd be royally screwed if you did get both!
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

I also don't know, though I suspect that those with weakened immune systems on the way out pick up whatever is going. We can see the potential for....what is obviously not always a cut and dried cause to be registered as covid....in a world that prefers certainties the 'half of one and three quarters of the other' just doesn't fit nicely on the dotted line. Has covid been the significant underlying issue in the death? Are their benefits to attributing one over the other? Personally I suspect it's been significant but over stated. Purely my cynical opinion of course. Edited by Stirlingsays (23 Feb 2021 10.28am)

The total number of deaths is probably the statistic to investigate. Though the last year has seen so many irregular governmental actions that this will have affected the average deaths from many different causes as well. Have the press given that a strong look into....no idea. I suspect that this overt focus is going to have very real consequences for many in different medical situations. For one, it's been reported that Cancer Research UK think that tens of thousands of cancer cases may have been missed in the UK last year. Edited by Stirlingsays (23 Feb 2021 11.41am)

It is reported that on average people who have died of or with covid have died 8 years earlier than without covid.

I read somewhere flu cases have dropped to historically low levels due to lockdowns, distancing increased hygiene awareness etc. Less transmissible than COVID so makes sense. And yes, they're not all lumped in together Wasn’t the flu vaccination drive after 31st August, from September 2020 in preparation for ‘flu season’ a month or two later?

Edited by Stirlingsays (23 Feb 2021 11.41am) Going to be a debate and a long NHS waiting list for years. I’d like to see comparisons with other countries starting a few years before 2020 to see the real picture after than the BBC and Labour activists (same group really) claiming ‘’the worst the worst the worst’’ at every opportunity. And this vaccine strategy from day 1 may bring the death figures in line with other countries. The vaccines could have given us the chance to recover the economy over other countries after wrecking ours more. But it looks like that’s not happening. In the future I see politics being decided by multiple choice decisions on mobile phones by a select few of the public.

In the future I see politics being decided by multiple choice decisions on mobile phones by a select few of the public. The bankers, financiers and corporational class run the politicians because they fund them and own the media. Whatever modern day democracy is will be run for their interest until that changes.....and in truth even a directional change would only be in ideology as essentially elites will remain in charge regardless. Democracy is largely a myth if your choices are restricted to A: 'I support how things are run' or B: 'I support changing how things are run a little bit'. This is why the establishment hated the referendum, because it actually offered a binary choice with very different outcomes and it only happened because Cameron felt forced and was sure he'd win....so in effect political narcissism. It was a rare instance of actual democracy deciding a genuine directional path against the establishment....which is why it's unlikely a choice, between something they want and something they don't, will be offered again. I've become rather disaffected with democracy as the establishment clearly doesn't have my interests at heart. I want an Orbán in charge, but I might as well whistle dixie.

Yes, this idea that those who died of covid were almost universally at deaths door anyway never had any basis in reality. For those 70+ it's definitely something you want to avoid if at all possible. That's before getting into the significant numbers of people still with symptoms after 9 months. I'm heartened at least that most people take up the vaccine. Rationally that is a good move and when push comes to shove most people accept that despite whatever their stated take on the whole thing is.

However - having a positive covid test 28 days before death doesn't mean that it killed you.
