When things are scarce, people go robbing. That's how the poor survive The respective levels of poverty and suffering were very different to this current situation. When you literally cannot get your hands on basic neccessities then some people will steal. Others will steal as they were crooks before the Blitz. However the spirit of the majority of the people held firm when, if the same people today (and I include myself) were in the same situation I'm not sure they/I could cope.

They also had spivs who were hated by the decent folk. There is a tendency to look through rose tinted glasses at that era and mostly it was true people did pull together but it was backed by rationing. There was also plenty of theft it just wasn't reported in the press as bad for morale. Edited by Badger11 (20 Mar 2020 8.52pm)

It’s a joke and they’re taking the piss.

Ah yes, the 3 items only...........it's quite amusing really: Now, every week Me & Him indoors buy a pack of 200 cigarettes from our local Tesco (one between us, not one each) however, yesterday we were informed that we could only have 3 packs....... so now, despite being in the age group being told not to go out unless essential, we will have to go there 4 times a week to achieve what we have previously been buying for the last 10 years. (and please spare me the 'give it up's' etc. it is what it is and it's our choice)
