The same argument could have been made when this club was in danger of being wound up. Only Palace supporters cared. Lloyds certainly found out that this amounted to rather a lot bother for them. If Sainsbury prove to be a block on this club going forward then let's see how that works out for them. Personally I don't think that is going to happen and that a solution agreeable to both sides will be found.. Edited by Stirlingsays (08 May 2017 8.50am) This I am not advocating the placards right now but obviously I have already painted a couple of hundred over the weekend. Just letting Sainsbury's know that potentially we do have some leverage should be enough to help oil the wheels of negotiation. I have no doubt that is why Parish leaked the story

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave You would think that Sainsbury's would see the benefit of having a bigger stadium and thousands more potential match day customers with it. Seems like a no brainer if it only means a couple of parking spaces in return.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave At the end of the day if we are relegated will the stadium plans be put 'On Hold' ? I have always believed that a condition of the upgraded ground is that we stay in the PL.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave I can't even recall how big the Sainsbury's is as I hardly ever venture round the main stand, however from memory its rather 1980's avocado suite and dilapidated looking. much like its surroundings. Some of the modern day super-stores look phenomenal, in fact with glass fronts and white support beams many mirror similar build aesthetics to football stadiums,so from a practicality POV I do not see the issue. One thing that simply has to happen which nobody seems to have mentioned (probably because it is on the peripheral in terms of overall plans) is integration of our club shop into any redevelopment of a Sainsbury's - it would work so well for both parties! That all said, I'd suggest that whilst the above seems to be the last publicized sticking point in terms of plans for a new ground, it is most likely a culmination of issues that tie in to the other stands that is being factored in. Still, sometimes you just have to make a decision and lay a foundation down, I'd like to therefore think that Parish and co are confident of remaining at Selhurst if after 2 years of the Yanks being here we haven't come up with anything else. Stay up and next season we simply MUST announce something solid.

Why would anyone, other than a Palace supporter, care whether Sainsbury's are being 'unreasonable' or not? We don't even know what the details of the issue are for a start. But if you want to stand outside Sainsbury's with a placard saying "Multi-million pound business can't reach agreement with other multi-million pound business (details unknown)" then be my guest. I don't think you are getting the concept of false news yet are you? Having watched Don and Vlad, I can safely say it's much better if there is no truth at all in our stance. Then it can't get knocked down whilst still influencing the grocers.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Surely you don't see the club as a multi million pound businesses Dave? But yes, I agree with your judgement, no need to play "Calimero", Sainsbury Park on paper, a shirt sponsor deal, whatever sort it out and make sure we stay where we are and can upgrade as we all know is necessary. As I've already pointed out (several times), the general public will have no sympathy for, nor lend any support, to us. They prefer supermarkets to PL football clubs who they perceive, not entirely inaccurately, to be awash with vast amounts of cash. Given a choice the locals would rather have a supermarket than a football club, especially one that's planning on expanding its capacity. It would really help if we knew what we're being asked to pay and for what; we only have Parish's opinion of what's extortionate and I'd prefer to make up my own mind before I get all heated about Sainsbury's. 'confidentiality agreements' are par for the course for contract/finance negotiations.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave unfortunately Sainsbury's has every right to ask for a price higher than market value. Firstly they owe the land, secondly it is us who have approached them so they have the upper hand, thirdly there will be some disruption to the store which will impact business and fourthly as a PLC they are meant to maximise shareholder return. So there was always going to be some negotiation required although it appears parish is frustrated - probably due to the high demands and slow progress. So how do you price a 'small sliver' of a car park? Probably in the same way you price a footballer - it's quite subjective. Say Sainsbury's are asking for a few million? Let's compare that with Palace paying over £5m out to agents in the last year and we also agreed a £2m loan fee in addition to wages for Sakho which works out at £250k per game. We also have players on £100k per week. Having said that I believe we bought the whole Beckenham training facility for c£2m so perhaps that's a better comparison. So whilst it is frustrating that we appear to be making little progress having a pop at Sainsbury's seems a bit pathetic. Incidentally Palace (Bloye) sold land to Sainsbury's in 1980, Noades took over in 1981 buying what remained of the club from Bloye.

'Park and Ride' would be difficult if not impossible from Croydon as where would you find a car park to utilise? If capacity is going to be increased by 9,000-14,000 at Selhurst Park fans would be wiser to travel to matches by train. The roads approaching and surrounding the ground will not be able to cope with the increase in traffic and on street parking which is already pretty poor will decline further. On the other hand they may just ignore any increase in custom and carry on as before leaving us mugs struggling to get on ever more packed trains.
