I think I agree this. It is difficult to say this with so many spring chickens on this site, but Hodgson's age caught up with him. Had we not had the injuries, it would have been normal business. However, he admitted to feeling the stress and losing sleep over results, injuries and so on. Your body might just cope with that at 55; but at 75? Using Hrolf's ratio, we lost the 10%.

As I keep boring myself on, Glasner has a different approach to the player psyche. We saw order and regimen under Hodgson, but we also have that now. What we have that we previously lacked is a fight. That is what we were sadly lacking when we shipped all those goals and squandered all those leads.

It is tempting to look at the difference between Palace under Glasner and co compared with Palace under Roy and Ray and put the difference down to the ages of the coaches- Fourball under a 50 year old fit coach versus a couple of septigenarians. However, Ancelotti is no spring chicken but his Real side can still play with pace. Roy’s approach was revolutionary when he was a young manager but outdated in the modern game and as they say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Glasner’s approach is dynamic and makes better use of the talent we have in our squad. That’s a good start but it’ll be interesting to see if he is able to develop those players and make them better. That is surely what marks out the great coaches from the rest.

That wasn't luck Painter, it was solid hard work. OK, Liverpool didn't take their chances, but even when they got them on target we were there to block them.
There was nothing lucky about our 20+ passing goal either. It was a goal that Brazil would have been proud of. Even got Kloppie just saying Wow. He was gob smacked. Plus Mateta was very unlucky not to score a brace.
And where did all that Palace energy come from? Has to be the effect Glasner is already having on our players. It was starting to be seen v Man City.
I agree its early to judge Glasner, but there are already exciting signs that are starting to uplift posters here.

I didn’t say our goal was lucky, it was excellent, which included players in the move, who some think they aren’t good enough previously.
Liverpool had an expected goal rating of 4.3, which is based on good chances they had. They were battering us in the second half, but we held out for a change.
Lets see how we get on against a tired W Ham on Sunday.

I cant agree with that statement, for me 50/50, Patrick Vieira had all of them players, and Wilf, But that shows what happens when you have a complete Buffoon, with a record of failure as manager.

And I thought you were over him! In PV’s case it was more like 0/100

Glasner has had the benefit of returning players and some very good new players who have now bedded in.
Judging him now is premature, to say the least.

We were good at the start of the season before we had all the injuries under Roy. Roy was hard done by simply because he didn't have the players available and the fans needed someone to blame.

Hopefully next season we can retain our star players and push on.

I'd have though that any manager of a team with Olise, Eze, Wharton, Decoure, Anderson, Guehi, Henderson/Johnstone and Munoz among its ranks should be expected to do quite well.

Football is 90% about the players and 10% about the manager.

I'm not sure Villa would agree with you. Compare the headless Villa under Gerrard and how they quickly became under Emery.

The best managers not only get the team playing better, they improve individual players.

The worst managers can easily turn a smooth-running Rolls Royce into a clapped out Ford and leave individual players confused and questioning their own abilities. Look what happened to Birmingham City when Rooney was brought in.

Yes, a better manager can get more out of players, but the potential of the team depends on the quality of the squad.

Do you think Pep Guardiola could win the League with the current Sheffield United?

I think not.

It should be remembered that both Vieira and Hodgson did well in their initial period. The wheels came off later.

There was clearly a problem with Vieira that has not been made public, and Roy had the discussed injuries.

Glasner might do very well initially but it is a sustained period of form that he needs to achieve. That will be achieved with a stronger squad.

A good manager is one that can take a badly performing team and make it perform without too many changes.
or one that can effectively implement his ideas, so long as he has the players that are able to implement his style.

The Best Managers Transition a squad from one that does not suit their style to one that does without too much impact on pitch.

The Elite managers continue to transition their squad whilst changing staff and attitudes change over time.

OG has taken a largely underperforming side, found a system that would work with his squad, and identified, and gone out and filled the largest gap(s) he needed for it to be successfully applied. (i.e. Munoz). How he's achieved that is a big tick for me.
Much work left to do, but the signs are good.

Not sure he had much to do with Munoz signing - or Wharton for that matter. Both were clear problem areas once Doucoure was out for the season and signed about three weeks before Glasner arrived

He did, Glasner accepted the managers job in September 2023, and was due to take over at the end of the season, but due to Roys, Illness/poor form, he agreed to start earlier.

I thought too, but that picture on the Dart Board doesn't help

We were tracking Wharton for more than a year. Munoz, I accept may well have been looked at on Glasner's recommendation.
