He was always awkward to play against.. now he’s been given the confidence in a way better system… also given a run in the side which boosts confidence… I remember him getting that last minute goal against Leicester last Season and thinking then he’s on his way… I do wonder what Roy’s thinking now… his tactics were completely the wrong ones for JP…..

60m+ only Palmer and Foden scored more in the second half of the season, in the most difficult division in the world, and still only 26, younger than Watkins and Bowen

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

Mateta value?

He's not for sale - period.

Top strikers are like gold dust. When you get one you shouldn't sell him.

And I see that he was joint 9th in the list of top PL scorers for 23/24. Imagine if his first half had matched his second!

Does anyone believe that he can score many goals without Eze or Olise? He is not that valuable.

Haaland cannot score without the excellent service he gets too.

yours is an infantile comment. Benteke would have squandered every assist. skied it up into the Stands.

A good manager can figure out his players, and get the best from them. It seems that Glasner has figured out Mateta.....making the lad very valuable at the same time.

His running off the ball has impressed me a lot lately. He does get caught offside occasionally but it is usually a tight decision. Obviously any striker would miss the likes of Olise and Eze but Wharton and Munoz have also been finding him well. The goal against Man U came by finding space for a pass from Richards

He's the sort of player who will attract low ball offers from chancers both here and Europe.

His true value is circa £60 but I wouldn't sell. His work off the ball is just as good as his goal scoring. Truly amazing transformation.

That's because he's following Glasner's stated instructions, namely for his attackers to make runs behind the defence or on the shoulder of the last man on the basis that it's the best way to give yourself a chance of scoring.

Glasner expects that the attackers will be caught offside on occasions but like he said in one of his post-match press conferences - if you make 20 runs behind the defence it's unlikely you will offside on every occasion. In the Villa game Mateta showed just how well he has adjusted his timing with 3 goals (just onside) and only the one ball netted ruled out for a very marginal offside.
