I think the 4 points is probably fair given the reasons around the Johnson transfer . What I don't like about it is the appeal process . Appeal must be lodged a week before the end of the season which means if they are safe they do nothing but if they need the points back to stay up they appeal . I think so too. Everton pulled together after their deduction, pretty sure they won 4 in a row. Suspect this will make the Forrest game a fair bit harder. They will be looking to claw most of those points back at the first chance.

I don’t think four points is necessarily fair. If they get relegated by four or fewer points then it’s fair. They knowingly put themselves in a position where the timing of one transfer meant they broke the rules. They did this to gain an advantage. Who’s to say they haven’t already won 5,6,7,8 or more points this season than they would have done without overspending. They should be relegated as should Everton. One or both of them won’t be, which means that this season at least, cheats prosper. Doesn’t sound like much of a deterrent to me.

Assuming Everton are punished again that would make three teams alongside Luton and Forest, substantially behind us with the number of games left.

I can see a time when we end up with a kind of fixed price menu for profit & sustainability indiscretions - then we will see clubs gambling on how many potential match winning points its worth in the effected period if the buy player(s) x or x & y as opposed to points deducted / the penalty imposed.

The guy from sky explained this situation really well , he stated that 3 points of the penalty issued is automatic for breaching the rules , the league then issued a further 3 points for the amount of money that they breached the regulations by , however as Forest co operated with the investigations they took away 2 points of this penalty (good behaviour) . So if Forest appealed they can only appeal against the discretionary penalty of 1 point ,given the costs involved for launching an appeal i believe they will not bother even though they will use loads of blustery comment. Moving on as Everton are guilty of the same discretion they too will get at least 3 points deduction , but whether the league issue a discretionary penalty on top Gpd only knows

We’re already there. Don’t tell me Forest & Everton didn’t know exactly what they were doing. That’s why 4 or 6 point deductions aren’t a deterrent. Automatic relegation or maybe a 20 point deduction would stop this.

Certainly by the time we get to the end of the season with the publicity & media coverage / explanations as to who did what & how the outcome was reached for Everton (twice) & Forest everyone involved will be a lot more clued up on the mechanics of it -

You know, I have been as self righteous and self serving as the rest on here in condemning those who voted for rules and then broke them. However, if only to be Devil's advocate, some balance. Forest came up with a team worth £12M (I know!) and were expected to compete on equal terms with teams worth £billions. It just isn't fair. They sought to "stretch" the rules to stand a chance; and they only just scraped it. And now, the vested interests who profit from this unfairness are punishing them for their nerve of seeking to eat at the High Table and are sending them back to the lower, impoverished obscurity where they belong. As an aside, makes you proud to be Palace. Sustainable and rule compliant, we should be heading into our 12th season. That said, the gap is now much bigger than 11 years ago. I am pretty sure we would not have survived.

Just to clear up one thing, any appeal by Forest has to be submitted within 7 days from today ie by 25th March, not 7 days before the end of the season. Ah yes I slightly miss heard what they were saying on the radio . Though your right that the appeal must be submitted within 7 days the leagues rules do state the appeals process must be completed by the 24th May , 5 days after the last game of the season . So my point stands ,if Forest appeal teams will not know what points they need to be safe and could get relegated in the close season .
