Sensible taking him off though, he was close to getting a second booking and being sent off

Does anyone disagree (apart, of course, from Willo) that the referee was remiss in giving him a lecture rather than a second yellow?

I was in the Whitehorse so was quite far away from the incident, but we all feared the worst around me that’s for sure. Goes without saying what the Burnley fans thought

No, I don't disagree, but perhaps the referee realized on reflection that he shouldn't have given the first yellow and hence the talking to instead of a second yellow..

seemed to be his modus operandi. He'd talked to the Burnley keeper as well

So strange. Another ref would have given a second yellow. And another ref would not have given the penalty I don't think

Seems like the good old days of no consistency though doesn’t it? f*** VAR

This was only Lewis Smith's 2nd PL game and he has brandished 1 Red and 11 yellows.
In terms of the penalty, the referee was well positioned, got a good view of the incident and the award of a spot-kick was justified.
Overall, his performance was admirable.

Do you think so? I've seen the replay and I'm not convinced. Maybe that's just me.

One of those that if the ref does not give it then Var does not interfere?

It was one of those rare games where everything went our way. They're sending off. Four VARs all called in our favour. A dubious penalty which we scored. The Wharton incident where he pulled out of a challenge but the wet grass was like a skating rink. Even the ref slipped over at one point. Three good goals.
By the way, Wharton got the top stats in the game.

I was the same even from our view up the other end it just looked like a coming together after Franca was losing control of the ball, and after seeing it on TV I haven’t changed my mind……but we’ll take it, we might be on the wrong end of one ourselves next week

Glasner on MOTD was at pains to point out that the Red card was from Palace creating pressure and not a gift from the gods.
