pretty soon, in Ireland, you will get crucified for expressing an opinion. And censorship coming thereafter to the UK and everywhere.

You can't even call it Christmas anymore.

I find that severely lacking in principle, but each to their own.

Dude, the left's activists literally enabled grooming gangs for decades and I'm 'lacking in principle'.

You had posters on here defending the Police response around those grooming gangs and I'd like to say I remember your criticisms of it....but I can't.

So...

My position has always been clear. I have zero respect for any law that creates 'protected classes' because it leads to exactly what you see.

The left are only getting what they give out....the fact that they don't like it isn't my concern.

They created the standard that they now complain about.

Perhaps if the left had defended free speech as their forebears did they wouldn't find themselves now with a party that....like the Tories...can't stand its own base.

Yes, those people also lack principle - when there is behaviour I object to, I don't use it's existence to justify others repeating the same behaviour - that's just a race to the bottom.

Well, those arguments raged on here for years before now.

I don't remember you saying a peep about it until now.

I don't really get this.

Are you suggesting that anyone who happens to be Jewish cannot be criticised?

I know that seems to be what some people think, but it is clearly absurd. Criticism or opposition is not the same as racial or religious hatred.
Of course, that doesn't mean that the former can't be a result of the latter.

I am referring to the holocaust survivor quote.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

There's lot of arguments which rage on Hol that I don't partake in - I'm not sure what that proves.

You'll also have never seen me lazily accusing people of being a racist or anything similar.

There are lots of manufactured arguments caused by "misunderstandings" (a charitable description) and deliberate misrepresentations that continue unabated no matter how often they are corrected.

When some people know everything there is to know about everything that's what you get. Honest differences of opinion are not a currency of the self-righteous.

We understand what he was trying to say, do we not?

I'd think that an opinion on this topic by a man of his background carries more weight than most.

Surely, not every Jew in the world supports everything the Israeli government does, for example. Would this be outlawed too?

Neither is every Jew responsible for what Israel does or what other Jews might do. Zionists make up only a percentage of Jews and have been in conflict with the wider Jewish faith throughout their history.

That means that criticising Israel or Zionists cannot automatically equal an antisemitism.

I think Natalie Portman's position is exactly that.

Sure, I'm not saying that of you.

I'm just making the point that the left only care about these things when it affects them.

Yet a principle is only a principle if you're willing to defend it regardless.

The main people defending free speech and raging against 'protected classes' on here has been the right because it's been used as a weapon against them instead of addressing their points.

When the definition of anti semitism was outlined...which many regard as ridiculous in its accepted form....plenty on here complained about it.

The fact that the mainstream accept it does nothing to dispel the reality that if you criticise anything to do with the Jewish state, Zionism or anyone Jewish then you're apparently looking to cook yourself a small hat.

You can slag off gammons and you can criticise Iran....but steady on if you point out any disquiet over Gaza.

That's where we are.

'Protected classes' is bad law.

I don't have to proactively defend my principles across every interaction on Hol though - that's not a reasonable measure.

You say all of that, but the right and many on here were more than happy to join the exact same line of attack on Corbyn re antisemitism - I don't recall your position on that at the time, so that's not levelled at you personally, but certainly true of the right.

Neither side are unique in being hypocrites.

I made my position on the Corbyn antisemitism charge clear several times on here. I have never supported shutting people up on what they agree with or object to. Whether he likes or doesn't like anyone isn't important to me, what matters is....is the argument valid.

Though Corbyn is a case in point. He was more than happy to accuse people of 'isms' when it suited him.....He personally fired Sarah Champion for comments he didn't like over grooming gangs.

So again, Corbyn was an example of the left being caught out over politics they themselves used against others.
