We’ve never had any sort of cup run under Hodgson.
Therefore over roughly 5 seasons we’ve more or less thrown the towel in on 10 competitions(FA Cup and Carabo Cup).
Personally I’m uneasy with this.
Had we won last night we would have had a home draw v Luton and the opportunity of a proper cup run.
Have people already forgotten the excitement and feel good factor of the cup run a couple of seasons ago that took us to the semi final?

One of the posters said sagely before that game that Hodgson would set us up to achieve a narrow defeat and it certainly had that feel about it.
Does anyone seriously think that the lame defeat yesterday will leave us better equipped to face Arsenal?
I envisage another defeat with the excuse being made that we had a tough game a few days before.
Even if one accepts the argument about the squad not being particularly strong, there’s no excuse for not giving it our best shot e.g giving it a go with both Edouard and Mateta on at the same time, by not playing four players out of position.
No doubt the excuses will continue, but I’m told that’s not just 6 wins in 26 games.
That speaks for itself.

Ive forgotten the excitement and feel good factor of football full stop since he's been manager.

This is Roys 5th attempt at the cup here. Four third round exits but a run to the 6th rd once which included games against Grimsby and Doncaster. He's no fan of the cup

when was the last game you all see on a freezing cold night that was a exciting game , most of the prem cup games have been crap and im getting that from there supporters ,

Roy done right with the subs 5 players taken off have all had injurys , and we could play all out football and get slaughtered ever game then relegation and then supporters complain about we shouldnt have do all out attack , cant win .

we had won 3-0 people on here still would complain and say nothing todo with Roys picks and set up , yes i would love a cup run but we are building be it slowly a very good team of players ,

Arsenal cant score nor can we , has arteta sent up Arsenal wrong maybe , can see us getting a result there so resting players was right

You could argue he’s no fan of football, just dour results fulfilling a need. We could do with some fresh ideas in this team before they stifle themselves into relegation problems and the Championship.

I actually said to my mate last night (a WH fan) whilst trying not to sound bitter (lol)- Everton break the Profit & Sustainability rules, get found out & penalized in the league, but are able to use the same squad value that contributed to the financial discretion to compete in the cups -

Well it’s true isn’t it. It’s why these 10 point deductions are handied out

I can’t make you out Willo, Sheffield Utd on a freezing cold Tuesday night in January? What’s not to like?

Not forgetting the 4 hour round trip in the dark from/to my abode on the south coast.

I envisage myself imbibing some alcoholic refreshments in a local Public House with certain employees and customers in a state of shock due to my presence in this establishment rather than at Selhurst Park.

That’s a solid core.

Last I checked you can't play 2 keepers, Dacoure and Olise are injured. Not such a solid core really.

You can you know! Last week Arbroath brought their substitute keeper on to play up front because they had no one else on the bench when the striker got injured. He scored a worldly from 40 yards out. Maybe that’s the answer! [Link]

Similar to me coming up from Kent, I know how you feel, if I still lived in Bromley or South Norwood, no matter how grim it got, I just couldn’t keep away, but now with the trek up, sometimes I just think sod that, especially n December and January…….but other than that I’m pretty loyal

Skybet are offering 10/1 for Palace to beat Arsenal on Saturday. Let us know how much you're sticking on.

Hodgson, as Palace manager at least, doesn't do Cup games. The evidence is out there, and the approach must have the full approval of Parish - the league takes utmost precedence.
As I've said before, the team is the image of the manager.
On a happier note I recommend watching the highlights of the AFCON games, the ball goes forward most of the time.

5 man defence plus 2 defensive midfield players set out Roys usual intent. But despite that we still should have comfortably won. Their keeper made great saves and we missed several. Guehi was great going forward in the end. And Ahamada. Eze had 2 good runs but spent the rest of the evening losing possession. Andersen lost his passing touch for once. Lerma is a great combative midfielder but next to useless going forward. Clyne had the best game I have seen. Johnstone is much more reliable than Henderson it seems to me. Ozoh and Franca got 20 mins each but didn't do much. They are both fine players and need more game time. Richards has the makings of a fine combative centre half but is really nervous in possession. The midfield experiment needs to be replaced by an incoming loan. Frustrating night. A game we could have won easily with a more positive approach.
