I'm not sure it works like that. Once the release clause is met the player is allowed to negotiate terms with the club but if multiple offers come in that trigger the release clause he is under no obligation to go to the one with the biggest offer Let's say his release clause is 60 million and Liverpool offers that. Man City counters with 70 and Man Utd with 80. Obviously, Palace would prefer United to prevail but Olise might think "Why would I want to join that circus without European football" and turn down City as they wouldn't agree to make him a guaranteed starter. Salah may have left Liverpool by then and he is the obvious replacement. If he gets something approaching Salah's salary that could well be where he ends up If the release clause is 60m everyone will bid 60m, it is then up to Michael to decide which, if any, deal he wants to accept, Palace have no say in the matter
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

I love the style of Olise's football and admire his willingness to stay with us this season although it seems most likely he will sign for a 'bigger' club (I hate that term) in the future. But, am I the only one who who finds it difficult to see ex-Palace players in another club's shirt? When AWB went to United I willed him to make a mistake every time he got the ball. Even now, I hate seeing Gallagher play for Chelsea and he was only on loan to us! If, as most of us believe he will, move on, I just hope Mr Parish holds out for the biggest pot of cash possible and a club record fee then spends it wisely to strengthen our squad.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I totally understand your sentiments - and in an ideal world Olise would stay with us for years to come. However, football is all about money, egos and power!

No details of Olise’s new contract have been released. But I do hope the club have inserted a large sell on clause, so we can get another payout a few years down the line should he move on again. I may be wrong, but don’t Reading get 25% of any fee we receive when he moves ?

At the moment I dare say Chelsea are thinking they dodged one…guy is continually injured. It’s hard to tell if the club are failing to give him the correct recovery time or if he’s just another guy that’s not up to playing regular football. Either way it’s very concerning.

With about 10 minutes to go of the Brentford game, I found myself thinking 'it's only a couple of weeks since Olise couldn't start the Liverpool game due to fears of stressing that hamstring and he's now playing 3 90 minutes in a week. We must be thinking about bringing him off?'. He then gets the injury right at the end. I get he was on a hat trick, playing really well, and that Brentford were doing a little bit of threatening, but there has to be some intelligence amongst the management and medical staff in situations like that to manage a player who is so important. Hopefully it's small and at worst he only misses the Arsenal game. If he misses Sheffield United, then quite frankly it's the club's own fault.

Sounds like a 4-6 week injury to me.

Questions need to be asked of the depth of the squad, but also Roy's game management. I suspect given the pressure, Roy will have felt like he needed to do everything he can to win the game. Disregarding anything in the future.

He played 37/38 league games last season. His last season at Reading he played 44/46 in the Championship. This is really the first period in his professional career that he's suffered any sort of major injuries - I dare say Chelsea aren't silly enough to think a couple of injuries in quick succession are indicative of anything. That's a very reactive take.

I must say, the latest news about his hamstring does not sound good. Both he and Eze seem worryingly injury prone.
