Yes you are right Badger, I was on a rant last night and especially fed up that so many fans were pointing the blame purely at Roy. Who was he meant to bring on to change the game last night. Ahamada or Franca. He tried one and it did nothing. I doubt the majority of our players on the bench are championship level at best. Many could see the shortcomings after the summer transfer window and that it wouldn't take too many injuries to leave us in a bad way. That's happened, as inevitable as when we only had one striker and SP came up with 'what if the sun doesn't rise' comment. Overall SP has been a great Chairman, best in my time. But there seems to be a malaise or a feeling of complacency in the Board. The amount of time it took to announce Roy as manager, made it feel like others had been sounded out and turned it down. The decision taken to ask Roy as he was a safe pair of hands and we could get away with kicking the can down the road again. One left back for what I think is now the 3rd season, 2 right backs who should be cover at best, only 2 strikers for a year, one of these not of the required standard and we didn't get anyone in for fill Zaha's position. Of our recent signings, there has to be serious doubts whether Ahamda, Franca, Ebiowei or Plange will ever make it as this level. We needed some players for now and didn't get them. Sack Roy and who do we bring in, without significantly investing in the squad that will give us better chance of staying up? Potter - no, will need time, okay if we want to go down and rebuild. The Board have put us in this risky position and they should acknowledge some responsibility for it. But they won't. SP will just announce that Roy has left by mutual consent, thank him for his efforts and we will bring in the next hapless guy, who will again be fooled into thinking there is a decent transfer budget. If he keeps us up, he'll still be facing next season with one left back and the news that Nathan Ferguson is close to fitness and we won't need a new right back. Oh, and Schlupp is a decent first choice left sided midfielder. What do we do? If we can't spend money, then perhaps we need to sell one or two of our prize assets this January and spend every penny of it on the areas of the squad that need addressing. Because if we go down, then we will be selling every one of them for far less than we would get now. Apologies for the rant! Originally posted by Badger11
I agree with a lot of what you say except the bit about selling the club. I don't believe there are any responsible buyers out there. There are always chancers who will buy Palace with the clubs money racking up huge debts and then disappearing, just look at Charlton and Portsmouth. Some have said that Parish wants to hold on, I'm not sure I believe, that if Sheik Yo Money turned up I do think he would sell. Is there any point in sacking Roy? As you said the summer transfer window was a disaster and not his fault.

It doesn't matter who succeeds Roy ,they will only come and will have to be backed with a decent transfer budget ? Otherwise the problem's will still exist.Thats why i think it will again be the cheapest option in Paddy Mc. Loved Paddy as a player, but if he's appointed I won't be renewing my ST.

Apologies for the rant! No need this is a football forum. If you can't have a rant at your team why bother. I think we are all fed up with last night's display. Well Roy earns a good salary so time for him to earn it and turn it around.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Hodgson out' by Guntrisoft The same rhetoric as any time we have consecutive poor performances. The reasoning we can't spend more is because Palace does not make much in terms of revenue.... We haven't sold any players, we don't have a big stadium.... you cannot spend outside your means (as shown by Everton or any team lower than the big 6.) They will generally obfuscate investigations and delay them like Chelsea and Man City. Palace does not have the means to do this. Fact is, there was recruitment of sorts, and we have injuries on the quality players. What cannot be overlooked is why Roy has played Chris Richards, who, for all intended purposes, is a central defender, played as a midfielder when we do have midfielders languishing on the bench. Nor does his utter tosh explaination that he doesn't want to demoralise youngsters on the bench (Ahamada or Franca) and so feels that not playing them is far better than giving them any significant game time (except if its generally with 5 mins to go) where they might actually improve. Ahamada came on last night before 70 mins (shocking i know) and looked like 1 of the very few with any hunger and energy to chase the ball. This is firmly at the coaches door in my view. The defense looks a shadow of what they have been, Sam Johnson has had some iffy moments in goal recently and the less said about the work rate of the rest, the better. I mentioned in another post of a fan saying to me last night 'I've never felt further from the club in the last 10 years' and I would suggest he is far from alone. I second your agreement of NEILLO's post too Elpis. I don't think he's being dramatic, and neither am I, in saying there is little that feels 'right' atm. All energy, enthusiasm, identity and unity has been sapped. It does feel like a continual regurgitation of dross, accompanied with false promises, which many are just too tired for now. Hodgson kills all joy for the game with his tactical approach, and, with the benefit of hindsight, the fans can't be fooled twice by false promises and Parish BS. We've been here before and witnessed the abysmal football it produces. Then it was enough to keep us in 14th, not so this time round. The fans know this, no amount of PR spin can say otherwise.

I think he signed his death warrant by his comments after the terrible match, there were many options he could have tried last night but he didn't, i just think time has caught up with him and he is being even more inflexible than he has been in the past, and that is saying something, he has to go he has lost the fans and it seems many of the players, there wont be any points in the next two games anyway, prepare for a new man before the Jan 1st transfer window some ins and outs can be achieved Agree, his race is now run, lost the players , looking at the effort they showed last night.

Cooper will be available soon. Welcome Steve! [/ Jez hope not. With our squad we’d get relegated with him in charge. All the mis management by the owners is coming home to roost. Tbh not sure who would come in to manage us. Dire times ahead I think.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Hodgson out' by Guntrisoft Roy is symptomatic of the current issues at the Club. He was reappointed because the Chairman has no ambition other than to cling on to Premier League status and to build a huge stand to act as his 'legacy.' I have always said that the stand will never happen under the current ownership structure and I wonder now if we will survive this season. I don't blame Roy for the overall situation, that is down to Parish. Even last night he was babbling on about maybe a loan player in Jan as the squad looked ok, Parish lacks the pockets to own and the skill to run a top flight club. But Roy does get the blame for tactics so put of date that last appeared in the 1980 ladybird book of football tactics, a refusal to play anyone he doesn't fancy sticking to his old slow warhorses and his total.lack of plan B. But who would want to manage us right now we struggled to find a manager to replace Viera and will struggle again (and so will just appoint Paddy.)

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I'm usually the most optimistic "I'll back the manager til the end" kind of person but Roy has to go. His heart isn't in it, it's likely not good for his health, lost the dressing room and fans and we are playing the most boring football I've seen for a while. My fiancee sat and watched the game with me last night, who isn't a PAalce fan and even she said we have "no oomph". She wouldn't let me change the channel either, anything would have been better than watching that performance. I imagine because of the short term nature of his contract, letting him go won't cost a bomb, so do it now, get someone in for January and back them with the signings we need. We are seriously lacking in right back, left back, centre mid, left wing and striker positions, with a paper thin squad and no one (maybe Olise and Eze when fit aside) who can grab the game by the scruff of the neck and make something happen.

I watched the game as I always do but for the first time in ages found it too painful and just listened to the commentary. Let’s be honest. Bournemouth were much better than we expected. I know their form is good but they are still just Bournemouth having a little lucky run. Except they weren’t. They were strong, consistently first to the ball and bossed us. We were slow, of action and thought. Lots of misplaced passes and poor crosses. No penetration at all. We were lucky to get 0! I know injuries and a lack of quality on the bench make it tough but is there more to it than that? I doubt whether Roy has lost the dressing room. He is too experienced and respected for that. Everyone seemed tired and lethargic. Do we have some sickness in the squad?
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |
