I thought we should have got Grey when he went to Everton for silly low money - obviously from the other thread on this there are people in the know that hint on suspected attitude issues, I have seen games where he has brought a considerable amount to the party & others where he seemed almost anonymous - Originally posted by dreamwaverider

We're getting rid of Mateta because he's lazy and swapping him for another lazy player but this one doesn't turn up for training and can hardly last 90 minutes. Why do you think that Sean Dyche dropped him

Why do you think that Sean Dyche dropped him You seem very scathing of Gray this morning ME!! I'm not saying your anger is unjustified however I am choosing somewhere between hopeless cynicism and deluded optimism on this one. It's a cheap deal of course but Gray is a young, English black lad and we have quite a few of them in our squad. He'll be in London and at a team where the fanbase and club is warm and welcoming. He has undoubted talent and hopefully some familiarity and kinship with teammates, plus feeling settled in location (London) and welcomed by fans might exploit these talents. The team also play far better football now and that might encourage him further. Again, not saying this will be the case but may, may be conducive to him performing well. If so, that would be encouraging. For all the Roy related bitterness he is a coach who the likes of WIlf and Eze had waxed lyrically about with regards to his tutelage and paternal presence, and this may also help him. We'll see I guess.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

If it happens another bargain basement on the cheap signing with the usual risk attached: lacks consistency and goes missing often enough, eye-catching when he does turn up, which isn't that often hence the price.

Gray offers nowhere near the danger Wilf does. If he is coming as backup for £10 million I would say it's a good deal, but if it is to replace Wilf I'd say it makes us weaker in that position.

I have a feeling we'll be in for both Gray and Danjuma, so a bit of quantity over quality. Both good players mind but I hope it doesn't pan out like Edouard and Mateta, where we've hoped that two players might equate to one but is all too often none.
