This is the odd thing about Glastonbury though - the crowds seem to enjoy everything equally. Death metal to someone playing the spoons is all the same to them. Suppose it's more about being there than who's on the bill. I enjoyed his session. Not remotely my music, but a lot of fun especially getting security to do his truly naff "Never" dance routine. Hilarious. And I also really enjoyed his karaoke Smiths. He is a charismatic entertainer and really bossed both sessions.

Didn't stop the similarly aged Mael brothers or the slightly younger Chrissy Hynde from being brilliant (although the less said of Ms. Harry the better). I guess it depends on a number of factors affecting the old voice box. Elton's old songs were written at a higher key than his voice now, so singing them is always going to be a challenge. Hynde still sounds like she did, but she wasn't much of a singer back then either. I liked Sparks in the 70's, but their stuff is often a little too avant garde for me. Russell Mael needs to lay off the hair dye a bit.

Sorry to all fans of The Pretenders - or Pretenderz, as their graphic inexplicably seemed to say.

I just watched 'Generation Sex' Oh dear. I am rather disappointed to see Billy Idol involve himself in such a feeble endeavour. The Sex Pistol were a fad manufactured band with one great album. Idol has had a career with a number of good albums since his three chord days in Generation X. Surely he can do better.

I could listen to Steve Jones' guitar all day but it was all double tracked by Chris Thomas so wouldn't sound right live.

Yeah, but Billy Idol is not Johnny Rotten and Punk was an amusing fad that you could love when you were at school, but in 2023 it is well past its sell by date. I saw Idol at Wembley quite a few years back now, and he was very good doing his own stuff. He was a proper pop star with charisma. What I saw today was an old man trying to make a few bob reliving his youth. He should have more faith in his own solo back catalogue.

The Pistols & the Clash were the music of my late teens and I still get a kick out of a few tracks.

I still like stuff from my childhood and teens, plus newer things, but there is something particularly pathetic about Billy Idol teaming up with a couple of Pistols and knocking out some punk songs like an ageing pub band. It's barrel scraping stuff.
