Any striker that consistently gets 15+ a season is not going to be playing for a club like palace or any of the clubs like us. A club like us needs a striker that holds the ball up, links up play a bit, does a bit of dirty work and chips in with a few goals here and there a season. We won't get any better than that I am afraid.

With all due respect ST, and acknowledging you are only the latest of many to propose this idea, has this actually happened anywhere, ever? It’s continually discussed as though it’s commonplace let alone viable. Hodgson and Potter two very different managers so at the very least I’d expect that to be a problem let alone the fact that one may not take or be impressed coming into a job where they are overseen by their predecessor. Genuine questions as I am intrigued so if ‘Y’ I’m surprised I’ve missed it and if ‘no’ why on earth is it continually put forward? ing made already in key positions like LB and RB

Keep Roy and Ray. They had them playing amazingly well.

I think that Graham Potter would make an excellent appointment as our next manager. Roy & Ray have done an amazing job and yes if they are retained for another year I don't see it as a total project disaster. However, are the club moving forwards in terms of squad building or merely standing still and fire fighting again?

Heart and head reply here. In complete agreement although I would like to see some transitional managerial overplay work with Hodgson as well following Potter's bruising experience at Chelsea. Potter built a team ethic at Brighton that at the time was precisely the club to align ourselves to in terms of realistic progressive steps to adopt. Potter has that blueprint model of delivery to take Palace forward. As for Hodgson in the long run? Is Honorary President Of CPFC really that far flung a working suggestion? We need to keep him close to the club (as Palace is to his heart and how he has rescued our Prem.survival) as rebuild continues. What do others think? I believe Roy should be offered a position of honorary/ life president. He obviously loves the club and has dug us out of several holes

Roy cant be offered anymore than a years contract. We need to plan more long term than that. If whoever comes in is a disaster and we are in trouble again next Feb/March bring Roy in again then. Rodgers must be the numero uno target. If he turns us down Stevie Gerrard give him a go.

Gerrard was a disaster at Villa, wouldn’t want him anywhere near Palace.

Would certainly not like Gerrard. I would of course wish Potter well but I would be uneasy too. For quite a while at Brighton their points tally didn't match the attractiveness of their football. I worry a little that his style is quite heavily possession-based, possibly with slow build-up, and it just makes me think of what was going wrong with PV's Palace after the World Cup. Lots of square passes, slow build-up, minimal shots on goal. However, we need to make a decision, and whilst Roy has done a great job, a man in his mid-70's who will not be there for more than 1 more season is unlikely to help us bring in the players we need, or maybe even keep the best talent we already have. Just to add I think Rodgers would be a really good appointment. Edited by Living In Hope (01 Jun 2023 9.01pm)
