Both had proper CVs, McCarthy does not have anything serious to recommend him as a PL manager. Doesn't mean it's beyond him, but it's wild to suggest it's not a crazy punt.

If you read my post this was a reply in relation to Arne Slot, not McCarthy, who I agree is not even close to being ready for the PL. Slot has excellent management credentials and a football style that matches our own current set up. He also has a good track record bringing youngsters through. He has way more experience than PV had and the more I read about him the more I think he is right for the job.

If that is how the job is being sold to prospective managers I doubt whether any half decent manager would join us

I'd say it's the other way around. The vast majority of potential candidates (especially if we are looking around Europe) would be frightened off if we ask them to handle transfers, contracts etc.

There can't be many managers anywhere who still handle that sort of thing.

I have been in communication with a few supporters and whilst all recognise the achievements of Mr Hodgson in terms of results and performances there were mixed feeling about whether any continuation of his tenure would be in the interests of the club.

I think everyone loves Roy, but how long next season when the tougher fixtures kick in again and we struggle going forward again will the love continue? I have no doubt he’s benefited from the easier fixtures and much as Roy’s a gent and I love the bloke, I think we need a fresh start next season

In reality I suspect its always going to be the DOF with some input from the manager.

The average manager tenure is less than 2 years, so Parish and Dougie have to be buying the right players for our club. Which is why you need to have an underlining philosophy, and not change playing style from manger to manager.

They can of course take manager input, and in some cases (I suspect Viera) the manager may be a draw in themselves and make the job easier.

But in reality, when signing a player, statistically, they will always outlast the manager.

If Roy wants the job, and is fit enough , and the club know he is fit enough, to cope with all the obvious pressures involved then why not.
The club just doesn’t appear to be set up yet for all of the added pressures that could come from being consistent in the top ten, in short we don’t appear to be able to afford it yet, This has to be a factor in who wants our job, and a factor in anyone looking at it as anything other than a stepping stone, the point being maintaining top ten on our budget even if gained is not likely.
Roy , is as capable as anyone of maintaining us as competitive for at least another season, that’s another year for the board to make progress of their own. Even after that the problem of getting someone happy to work successfully with our limitations will remain. Time may change this situation, the right kind of investment might happen and all our dreams come true, but for the moment a fit Roy is plenty good enough.
