But my point was would he have done that if he was on £100,000 per goal as was suggested he will already be on a win bonus and probably a goal bonus - nowhere near £100k but it won't be small change. Bonuses happen at every level of football and have done for years.

Get him signed up. It would cost 30/40 million to buy a player half the calibre of Wilf. Disagree. If we pay him £200k a week for 4 years, as has been 'suggested' in the papers this is madness. It's not just the overall cost of that package it's not knock on impact on wages across the squad. Our wage to revenue % is far too high and this has hamstrung the club for a number of years. The signing of Benteke blew the wage structure and every agent asked for a pay rise as a consequence. I can image the conversations - my player should be on at least 50%, 60% etc of the top earner. Once you start paying over £100k a week then it's easier to do it for others - Sakho, Zaha and Meyer etc. Now if Zaha does get £200k then the Eze's etc should surely be on at least £100k etc.

People are forgetting that Zaha has a decent playing record in terms of not getting injured a lot. This season is his worst year injury wise and he has still played 27/38 EPL games which is still over 70 percent of EPL games he has played. Played 33/38 EPL matches in 2021/22, 30 in 2020/211 and 38 in 2019/20 so is not a player who is always out injured. Yes people will say Palace have Olise and Eze. But if he is in your side he makes the team stronger. If Palace had a clinical striker they would easily score 15+ goals a season when you have someone like Zaha, Olise and Eze on the same pitch.

He has had an excellent injury record, however, 3 times in the last few months he has had muscle injuries and left the pitch during games. His body has hit his 'wall' after 15 odd years. This is the reality. His injury record will only get worse.

I think Wilf was at his very peak two or three years ago. however, you often see Italian teams doing well in the champions League with a ton of older players. While i love Wilf, i love CPFC even more. Surely its time to avoid giving him a 5 year contract. Edited by PalazioVecchio (17 May 2023 7.13pm)

I would keep, he's a legend, I remember when Wright left, Wright was only 27 years old and had started just 206 games as a professional and, arguably, had not reached his peak. Zaha is 30 has started 381 games and is on the decline. There is no comparison

Couldn't disagree more. A gamble? You mean like money spent on the likes of Edouard or Mateta? I'd rather wilf has an injury every now and then, than be a total sack of spuds on the pitch. He costs nothing in buying him, he is still very skillful and puts in a shift most of the time. He draws fouls, draws players to him, knows the team inside and out, knows the ethos of Palace, has a go at players who aren't putting in the effort, he is a role model to the younger players we are getting in, he has carried this team for years before this season, you need to keep some of the older players to instill a mindset and attitude for playing for Palace. Once Ward goes... there really isn't any of the old squad left from promotion (at least who I can think of) who knows what it takes to fight to keep a squad up. I think he puts I far more than just a goal or 2. Look at other clubs who just buy a load of players in. The new players don't usually gives 2 turds as to what the club is about nor care if they stay up. You can buy in loads of young talent but it doesn't mean they'll be able to cut it in the Premier league as well as being far more likely to be prone to making errors and having lapses in concentration. In any case, I think it's a good decision.[/quote This with knobs on!!
