I'm not sure anyone with half a brain cell would think this.

The guy is raw, yeah but he's 20. But looks like he has all that attributes required. Stick him in a better team, alongside a solid CM and he could really flourish.

When I used the words "Desperation" I was thinking about supporters who might have concluded that the club had run out of options and decided to pursue a player, who rightly or wrongly, is not yet ready to command a permanent midfield berth in the PL but has the potential to do so.

I cannot comment as I have never seen Ahamada ply his trade and know precious little about the player.
PV asserted that the team needed experience and physicality - Ahamada does not have the former and maybe not the latter.

It's on the BBC rolling updates too - at 10.21

[Link]

it says:

Stuttgart midfielder Naouirou Ahamada is undergoing a medical which will seal his move to Crystal Palace.

Patrick Vieira has spoken about the need to bring in reinforcements.

Ahamada was in the Juventus academy before joining the Bundssliga side on a permanent deal.

He’s made 18 appearances in all competitions for Stuttgart scoring two goals.

What! Bournemouth after him as well?

Very good.

Back to the player - if he's just been sent off i presume that ban will run over to us so he can't play against Man U - probably not a major issue as it's likely he'll be on the bench at best.

I think that anyone that thinks this is a desperate transfer is a halfwit.

A 100% nailed on starter in the PL, under 24, is fetching you £40/50/60mill nowadays. So we have to take some calculated risks.

By way of a good and timely comparison, Brighton have just turned down £70m for Caicedo. A player bought at a similar age (to what Ahamada is now) with a handful of games in Ecuador. He then picked up another handful of games in the Belgium league. any now apparently is worth north of £70m...

This is 100% the transfer model we need to be replicating, and hence 100% the type of player we need to be targeting.

Have to agree 100%. It’s pretty obvious this move was being worked on all along, as many including me started to lose faith.
Can not see this signing as desperation, desperation would be a burnt out super star ,
It’s no sticking plaster either , it’s a fairly priced signing with both eyes on the clubs future, the next six years some say. He may need to get up to speed ,but he certainly has the pedigree . We are still a long way from buying racing certainties , that’s if such a thing actually exists. If this is the potential they put their money on, then more power to their elbow.

I fully appreciate your sentiments apropos Caicedo who was bought for some £4.5 Mill and is now worth an astronomical sum.
The difference is that Caicedo was not bought to solve a problem in midfield (As we have) and was loaned out to Beerschot.

Overall, the Brighton transfer activity is worthy of plaudits and Caicedo,Mitoma and Ferguson are proving their worth.

Ahamada might prove to be a marvellous signing, worth far more than his present fee, but whether he can make the required impact in the midfield 'Engine room' this season is open to conjecture. One hopes his impact is instant.

Agreed not desperation a calculated risk on a young player which if it pays off will quadruple his value. A risk would have been signing Ings or Shelvey on a big salary when both are now injury prone.

As long as he is good enough to remove Jeff Schlupp far away from the starting 11 then I’l be happy.

IMO Sp & co have set a rigid plan to only buy young talent in the making, academy etc which means we have to be patient. We are small club in the grand scheme of things with a long term plan. Again IMO this could pay divi's later, fingers crossed.

PV has said that the team needs "Experience".
