Danny Ings has read this thread and said "no thanks".

Fears he would be playing Championship football next season if he came our way!!

If the media is to be believed then Everton will offer him 125K per week if he joins. On that basis I'm out!

I didn't see this happening. Why would we have a normal striker?

People knocking the pessimists here, but taking the manner of our last four defeats is it really not justified?
Ings or any other so called striker would need to score an awful lot of goals, whilst putting in mega all round shifts to have prevented what were abject displays by any standard applied..
Ings, is still a good player, not so good he could carry a team playing with no fire in its belly, as I feel we have become. It’s the belly of this team that needs new faces, spend money on Ings, if we have it , but not if the mid field and defensive areas are not boosted.

This, exactly.

It's quite common that teams, particularly mid-table teams who don't win things year after year and whose real progress is barred by the vastly wealthy big seven, go stale after a while. They're not really competing for anything, and at some point, the motivation inevitably runs a bit dry and performance drops off.

This has happened to numerous sides over the years (Stoke is but one obvious example) and the way you address it and halt the decline is to refresh the squad. So yes, Ings may not be a world-beater but we're not going to sign world-beaters. Sometimes fresh faces, a bit of turnover, some new blood are what's needed to motivate everyone, change the atmosphere, and put a spring back in the squad's step.

Make no mistake, we NEED to sign players in January to change the dynamic which, at present, is on a downward trajectory, and to show the present squad that the club does at least have some ambition and some resources to improve. I think if we do nothing in January window, the consequences may be disastrous and if not disastrous, certainly will lead to a long and unpleasant few months. The direction of travel for the club right now is very much dependent on the owners, not Vieira or the team.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Furthermore, looking at the stats I note that Ings has netted 7 times in 20 appearances this season, whilst Edouard has 5 from 17. Not really that much to choose from, and also worth noting that Edouard is hardly a starter under Vieira.
Those who are suggesting that Ings will suddenly provide the goals out of nowhere are frankly missing the point, being that it is the midfield which provides the service and is currently our weakest area and therefore needs reinforcing.

Totally new ownership, maybe some rogue state.

Like Edouard, Ings has either come off the bench or been subbed. His stats are that he scores a goal about every 125 Minutes. Edouard has our best figures at somewhere around a goal every 195 minutes.

I'm inclined to agree with a lot of that.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Accepting that Ings goalscoring stats are not significantly better than, for example, Edouard, my case for bringing him in is based around his experience / guile. Especially in and around the penalty area.

He would offer something different to what we currently have. I would rather see him competing for a place with Edouard than Mateta.

I honestly believe that the Super League will be back on the agenda soon in some way shape or form, either endorsed by the current footballing authorities or as a new breakaway set up -

We wont be included in it so then we will be able to have something more realistic to challenge for as the mega rich clubs will have departed to join the new format -

Unfortunately I agree.

The European Super league has been proposed at least 3 or 4 times, every time UEFA announce they have defeated it only to quietly give in to the big clubs demands.

This is how the Champions League started in the first place as the big clubs didn't like the European Cup knock out format, Liverpool versus real Madrid in round 1, how dare they.

I think from next year qualification will be based on past performance, so Liverpool finish in the PL just outside automatic qualifying, they are in because of previous years. If Palace finished in the same league position we would not qualify.

As long as the big clubs keep getting their way they will stay within the football family. Personally if I was UEFA I would kick them out of all competitions domestic and international and go back to qualification on merit.

I doubt the rest of us would miss them.
