A colleague was impacted and was present at the meeting. He told me one guy stood up very angry and said to the rest of them "we're not going to take this, are we men or mice"? What happened I asked him? "What do you think! The rest of us went squeak squeak". I worked in IT for about 10 years and this salary cutting happened about 3/4 times. The people affected were IT contractors on short term deals but it was disgusting you agree to employ someone on a rate and then cut it shortly afterwards. The talent of course left within a couple of months hardly surprising. Edited by Badger11 (23 Jul 2022 9.24am) Edited by Badger11 (23 Jul 2022 9.25am) Did they supply CHEESE and biscuits?

Yes, the same happened to me 14 years ago, a 33% reduction or redundancy, i walked, I was freelance IT at Lehmans from 2006 - 2008. It wanted to cut my rate by 10% for a contract renewal even though it had given me more responsibility. I declined and walked into another job with 14% increase and no callout (PRS in Streatham). Lehmans failed 3 months later. I felt it was me leaving that tipped them over the edge . It got what it deserved.

Benteke could have left on a free transfer but opted to sign up for another two years. We didn’t have to renew nor he stay on so there had to be mutual benefit for both sides. He may go before the end of the transfer window if the right offer comes along but wouldn't he be daft to leave if he has good wages guaranteed for another year?

You are right, but i think the mutual benefit suited Benteke more, i am sure in hindsight the chairman would see it as a massive mistake. they gambled on an improvement in his form and lost.

From Benteke point of view, if he had just left when his original contract expired, what may he have got elsewhere? At the time and with his torrid form for the previous seasons I reckon he would have done well as a free agent in the south east of England as he didn’t want to move to get say £30k/week and say a £1m signing on fee. eg. A total of £4m over a two year period. No one in their right mind would have given him longer. So if we offered him £50k/wk for two years that’s £5m. I doubt we even needed to go to that. £40k/wk more like. He likes us and has a good way of life. 10ish games a season, no pressure. Doesn’t need to get stuck in as we clearly see so he can avoid another serious knee injury.

I think he will sign on loan to Standard Leige and we will pay half his wages until his contract is over, he needs to be playing somewhere at a lower standard to have any chance of getting in Belgium's WC squad
