I tried to be supportive of the Bring A Pal campaign but it got me into trouble. I couldn't find a Pal so I brought a Chum instead. Sniffer dog found it and I was told I couldn't bring tins of dogfood into the stadium. To this day they've never shown me where this is stated. Ha, made me chuckle!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Well my company is super-woke and we were offered rainbow lanyards but even they didn't force people to wear them. I don't think Kouyaté or Gueyehe have criticised anyone. Edited by Beastie (18 May 2022 10.47am) He's publicly said he 'wholeheartedly supports' a player for going on strike in protest at wearing a rainbow number for one game, calling him a 'real man' for doing so. Even if he's given the largest benefit of the doubt going and conclude he's purely asking people to leave his mate alone, he's at the very least carelessly left room for interpretation of discriminatory views on his own part. He could've dropped IG a text if he felt the need to show him his support, but instead chose to do it to his 421,000 instagram followers plus everyone who picks it up in the media. He's chosen to take a public position on a situation that had absolutely nothing to do with him. It's a little different to you choosing whether to wear lanyard A or B. Who's to say we don't have a homosexual player at the club who now has to have Cheikhou on their sphere of consideration? Given what the club has done for him in the past to accommodate his fasting, you'd think he'd at least be able to take a second to think of the impact he could be having on others. Muppet. I recall CPFC supporting the Rainbow Laces campaign. Did Kouyate participate by wearing them ?

Edited by ambrose7 (18 May 2022 11.38am) This is the scary part. No one's hurt or criticised gay people in any way. But there could be a thoughtcrime here. Failing to actively promote homosexuality is now classed as homophobia. Surely, tolerance of people’s differences is what we should be striving for? Whether that’s someone’s sexuality or someone’s religious beliefs or principles. It does make me laugh when supposedly liberal people get annoyed at Muslims coming over here and keeping their backwards beliefs.

I am sure england and other countries will still participate this year in the world cup? And I am sure most people will be watching the world cup this year? In a country that is homophobic, against womens rights etc... Once money is involved no one cares! all the virtual signalling doesnt matter either! Most muslims are also against LGBT! But people wont call it out! wonder why?

What IG has done - totally different subject. There's a very valid, ongoing discussion there around how opposing views live together in society. Sonny Bill Williams (Muslim) had gambling sponsors covered on his shirt when at the Blues, for instance. Regardless of how that discussion goes, and given how delicate that discussion is given the importance of religious and sexual inclinations for both sides, for Kouyate to get very publicly involved in an issue which in this instance has nothing to do with him and which he knows is going to drive controversy when the club has two massive games in the next 4 days is stupid. It's especially stupid this week when it's top of the news agenda and therefore will bring even greater attention/distraction.

Unfortunately, there does seem to be a lack of awareness from some players about social media scrutiny. A bit like Kurt Zouma expecting no backlash for voleying his cat across his kitchen.

Social liberalism encountering different views = problem. In truth the liberalism word should be taken out and replaced with authoritarianism.

You toe the line or you are destroyed in any way possible. To think independently, challenge or deviate from the narrative provided is now absolutely a crime in every sense.

Do we know if Gueye was forced to wear the shirt in question, or simply took offence to the prospect of having to wear it without understanding if he could opt out? There was probably a way all of this could have been handled better by both sides. And for what it's worth Kouyate really didn't need to weigh in like he has on the issue and made himself look like a total prat.

I don't think we do, But if he was given a choice and was the Only player without the rainbow number on his shirt, then much the same conversations would be happening. This all goes hand in hand with 'taking the knee'. This appears to be a forced action nowadays. Could you imagine if there were certain individuals (not teams) who decided not to take the knee where all others on the pitch did? All of a sudden that's a controversy, regardless of their reasons for doing such. I'm sure there are players who wouldn't (still) be doing this if they knew it wouldn't cause Attention on them This is why these kinds of statements have no place in the field of a team sport. If you want to support it, do it off the pitch.
