One thing I would say is that it's hard to deny the identikit nature of the main news channels. They often cover the exact same stories even though there's plenty of other angles or issues that could be addressed.

I see certain pitfalls in a new channel trying to 'make an impact', but at the same time, there are civil liberties, privacy, protest rights issues that none of the main channels ever want to address, and that go under the radar. A bit too hand in glove with government.

When we see where these issues can lead in say Russia, we're pretty disgusted, but have been trained to roll our eyes when we take steps down that same road at home. So regardless of the politics, I would hope that a new channel might pick up the mantle in areas such of this, and shine enough of a light that it then gains wider attention and momentum.

Don't forget as Stirling said earlier.

Yes, of course I can but I'm interested in what you posters on here actually take it to mean.

How is it used for political purposes, in what way does it impact on the 'majority' and how ]does it set a double standard?

It's all very well using these terms but it's all so general. What are the issues, what about them do you actually disagree with? There are probably many topics that could be 'woke'. Name them and then state, specifically, which ones you disagree with.

I so often hear the term and so often hear that people hate the idea of 'woke' but seldom do people say what it is about the principal and specific items of woke that they disagree with.

It's all so wishy-washy, non-specific.

Why don't people come out and say which aspects of it that they disagree with?

We have been talking about this subject for years,

Do you expect me to write 5000 words on the subject, so you can catch up?

Like feeding people stories such as 'Tulse Hill to be renamed' to entirely distract them from the important failings of Government?

You watch, the Tories main messaging up to a new GE will be to position themselves as 'anti-woke' and everyone will forget the fraud, theft, parties, lying to the monarch, struggling economy, realities of Brexit etc. as long as they agree not rename a Ploughman's lunch.

That is the primary political purpose of 'wokeness' - to keep people frantically moaning about the renaming of a statue they've never visited, over the fact that their elected representatives broke the law 20 times.

That is a very convenient rabbit hole for you to go down.

There is clearly an agenda, and it has nothing to do with the Tories specifically.

Of all the phrases I thought might be in replies, " Nazi cheese rant " was not in the top 20

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

As you have seen, they won't do that because it means they would have to think about how to defend criticising specifics, rather than just enjoy chucking mud at modern life and the way it is discussed. "Wokeness" is just the current buzzword of the right, and easy to echo as they confirm their biases. It will fade away and be replaced by a new word that they will all think super smart and repeat like parrots.

In the meantime, the changes to society that are truly sensible and worthwhile will gradually become accepted by everyone, them included, whilst the dafter ones will disappear. It's ever thus.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

It isn't a right-wing buzzword.
Woke was popularised by Black Lives Matter after having been in use since the early 1960s.
