Well Phil, just quickly remind us what level of football you played in and whether your team had a player as good as Olise? It's a matter of opinion like most else in life and, like the rest of us, you simply don't know.

Reassuring to find that I wasn't the only who thought Olise's chip had completely missed the mark. As the ball appeared to go wide I turned away from the screen to pick up my cup of tea. The next thing I knew was a huge roar from the crowd and Wilf leaping in the air.I was completely mystified for a short while until the goal was replayed.

And me except I’d thrown my head back groaning “Oh, for f…hold on, we’ve only scored”.

I believe it was intentional for this reason. A few minutes earlier Olise hit a similar shot from the same place, and with what looked like the same technique. That went wrong, so finding himself in that position in the penalty box a second time tried it again. This time the goal attempt nearly worked.

That's of course just an opinion, but it may explain why MO turned his back in annoyance/disappointment/whatever - it didn't go in. I suppose he should have been happy that it eventually did become a goal. That may show a little lack of team spirit, but hopefully that will grow as he matures.

Well technically it’s not because either he meant it or he didn’t and Michael will know which one it is. I’m sure it will come out at some point in an interview with him.

My money (FWIW) is on didn’t (100%).

I mean after a full pre-season and Eze 100% after his operation.

If you ever watch the training videos you will see Olise continually shoot from the right of the penalty area with his left foot bending the ball with a view to aiming for the top corner.
The ball starts like it’s going to miss the target but then arcs back towards the goal making it very difficult for the keeper to reach.
Personally I believe against Everton that he did not quite execute the shot as he wanted, but his intention was clear.

The debate has moved on from whether it was a fluke, an intentuonal shot mis-hit or an entirely new type of skill, to the suggestion that the only people entitled to an opinion are those who have played the game.
Well I have played the game at a very high level indeed, 4500 feet to be exact where the air was so thin we had to decompress after the game to avoid getting the bends and it was so hot it cooked the pea in the ref's whistle. I was rubbish admittedly.

TP I'll add your name to the list for membership.

I am sincerely happy reading all these comments to begin to believe that perhaps a lot of things I attribute to my own idiocy can possibly be just 'human error' from which I am not the only sufferer!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
