and you call me ignorant pot, kettle, black I think Do YOU actually watch the games? Eze WAS good last season, but so far, for understandable reasons, he’s been a fraction of the player since returning from injury, hence his limited appearances in the team But when he did play he played on the left, that is a fact, Wilf played up front

I am not trying to have a pop at PV or the progress the team has made this year but when people state we are 11th and in the Q/F of the FA Cup, whilst factually correct, it also papers over a number of potential cracks. Yes we are 11th but we have played more games than almost every team in the division, so our position is a little unrealistic. The 2 below us are on the same points with games in hand, so a position of 13th is more realistic. Still okay, but not great. FA Cup - yes it is great to be in the last 8 but we have played 3 teams from lower leagues. All 3 were very winnable. Both Millwall and Stoke gave us hard games. So in terms of 'concrete' progress i think the jury is still out. Hopefully, this is just stating the obvious

My concern about the transition is that normally the performances we’re getting now would be at the beginning of the transition and those we got back in October (I think) would be the ones we’re getting now. So it seems like in a way we’re going backwards. That coupled with bizarre team selections and subs have left me a bit concerned going forward. However, it is undoubtedly the most I’ve enjoyed palace in a long time so something is obviously going right too! Its a fair concern I guess the tricky thing is that football is a not an exact science - form, fitness, opponents all make it hard to see progress at time. Coupled with the fact that there are only 2 teams in the league that look great every week. Arse, Spurs, Chelsea, WH, still blow hot and cold. So I'm sure every fan sits there and wonders how they can beat City one week and lose to Burley the next (Spurs). It might be better to see this as year 1 of a transition. Lets say the yr1 objective was to increase ball retention by 10-15%

Lets say the yr1 objective was to increase ball retention by 10-15% I think that’s right. And the standard of the poorest teams is better than the equivalent a year ago, there aren’t many easy games, most teams - aside from the odd crap patch eg Leeds now - are generally tough to break down

I find it very questionable the way some of our supposedly "key" players are being used particularly Eze and Edouard, i assume PV doesn't rate him at all even though he bought him, and Eze before his injury was outstanding playing on the left side and cutting in, our quality attacking players are Wilf, Olise, Eze and Gallagher and they should all be used in our first 11

I think the problem is that the start of the season, Gallagher was on fire, winning games almost on his own. Mecca was also Immense at the start. Recently Gallagher hasn't been at his best, coinciding with Maccas injury. Hope with him back Gallagher can push further forward and we can start pressing high up the pitch again.

Ward maybe a little slow these days but is clearly a better right back than Clyne. Neither is the long term solution however. Just to put my 2 cents in on this. Ward is the better back but with him in the formation you now have no speed there except for Mitchell. All of Ward, Andersen and Guehi are slow so if they press up the field they can get caught out easily.
Success will lie to you but failure always tells you the truth. |

Indeed! Only my own opinion but the pendulum of a football fans mentality does seem to swing from one extreme to another. I have been guilty of this many a time over the years and have admittedly struggled with arresting this, have been working on it however! Yep, same. I don't think I actually thought we would go down, but I was prepared for a long, long season, with a lot of doubts along the way, before ultimately finishing somewhere around 16th/17th. So to (hopefully) not be there, is great. I'm still hopeful we can make top ten. Definitely an outside bet, but not outrageous. Other slightly obscure targets that would really show progress: Winning more than we lose Both are achievable, and both would likely see us top ten.
