Who knows what the future holds. PV - after the Brentford match - said (I think) something like we have talent and that talent needs to perform. PV knows that players need game time. Wilf has not been doing an active ninety minutes. could be used as an impact starter or impact substitute. On for first 25 minutes - really go for goal or draw many fouls (allowing opponents to earn red cards. On for last 35 minutes - still fresh and able to attract opponents (special if seen to present a goal threat) leaving way clear for others to do damage.

He really seems to have lost his pace almost overnight - last season great - this season not so and I cannot fathom it out.
Pace normally disappears over time not overnight.
An injury carried for a long time perhaps that is now having an effect?

Just an idle, random thought. I've just watched the so-called highlights of the match again and it occurred to me that if Canos had got the second yellow for hauling Wilf off the pitch which he deserved, and if a penalty had been given for Henry hauling him down in the area, I think we'd be feeling pretty satisfied with Wilf's contribution (as long as he didn't take the penalty).

I agree. First half I thought he was our best player. He dropped off a bit in the second half. Former PL referee Hackett thinks Wilf should have had a penalty: [Link]

Do you know what I still love him and taking the penalty out of the equation who else could have scored that goal, it was a Worldie?

Give him a break and enjoy the Wonder of Wilf........

What the f*** are you guys on ? He is the best attacking player we have. Without him we would still be in the championship. Who else could have scored that goal at Norwich. So he slipped for the penalty , s*** happens. I dont know why I bother coming to this site ... if you think letting Wilf go is a good idea for Crystal Palace Football Club then I think you really need help.

Not anymore he's not. Not even close.

Yes, without him in previous years we'd be in the championship, maybe. But we're not talking about previous years. We're talking about this season and moving into the future. He simply is not the same player.

Wilf's problems are of his own making. He used to get kicked by the opposition because he was by far our best player and stopping him meant stopping us.

Now he gets kicked because they know he'll lose the plot. It wouldn't be an issue if he channeled that anger into punishing the opposition but instead it puts him off his game. Players like James Ward-Prowse know exactly how to get in his head.

It's idiotic because if he restricted his moaning to key moments I reckon he'd win a lot more penalties. But he'll get kicked on the halfway line and go mental. It's like the boy who cried wolf, the penalty calls are diluted by the constant moaning.

All of this would be moot if he was still the same player he was 3 seasons ago but, in my opinion, he looks joyless on the pitch now. He used to be full of tricks and turns but now he doesn't seem to have the same spark.

I don't know what the answer is because I'm not convinced that Vieira fancies Eze that much so, for the time being, Zaha and Olise either side of a striker seems the best bet unless Eze can get back to his best.

However, I wouldn't be heartbroken if we did sell Wilf this summer. He may well be our best ever player but I was so disappointed with the events that led to him trying to force his way out of the club that I have lost a lot of love for him. Same with Freedman, my favourite player before Wilf and the nonsense he pulled on us.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Would love to know who you think is our best player?

The goal against Norwich shows Wilf remains a cut above anyone in our squad. It’s clear he has lost a touch of pace but his goal/ assist return shows he is still effective and deserves his starting place.

Yes, it was a nice goal from Wilf. Townsend scored similar, and let's not forget the best of the bunch, Ayew dancing past wooden Wet Spam players before chipping the keeper. Now that was a goal!

I can’t see anyone buying Wilf until his contract expires. He can then move on for free. So at 30 he should still be good for say £110k/wk.
Newcastle might go for him cos money is irrelevant. Our only chance of any money for him is this summer, but even then it won’t b more than £25m. Similar situation to us and Nketiah.

For me right now, it's Gallagher. But in terms of players who are better than Wilf:

Guehi
Gallagher
Olise
Eze (not currently, but we know he can get there)
