Jean Phillipe is an ebony God.

I tremble when he kicks the corner flag.

If only he got that close to the goal on a regular basis.

I have read that we are unable to offload him, even if we want to, because no-one is prepared to meet more than 1/3rd of his wages.

We have 4 strikers none of whom really threaten the opposition goal except occasionally. Let go of Mateta and try to sell Benteke which leaves Ayew who we leave as a winger/striker/no 10 and play Wilf at no 9 as he can score. in reality we play Benteke up front and hope he connects sometimes.
realistically we play Wilf on the right as he is right footed and play Benteke or Ayew (who is more mobile) in the middle and Eze on the left which should improve the number of balls into the area.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

My own 2c on this.
He was good for us in his first loan but less so on his second. When played recently (under Roy) he's almost always been offside when around goal when it counted.
To me he is someone who would benefit from some coaching but I think he's not getting any. He's just being left on his own to 'do something'. Not a great recipe for success.
This makes me think that under PV, if he takes him under his wing, he can turn into something really special.
He wants to succeed, that's obvious but are we willing to put the money and time into getting him there?
I'd like to give him a look. Not sure if PV wants to go that route but there's potential there and if coached properly maybe could become something great for us.
This is a big risk I get it, but I'll go with whatever PV decides.

Success will lie to you but failure always tells you the truth.

There has only been the one loan - an 18 month one which started last January.

I'm not at all sure where you get the idea he's been left on his own. Both Vieira and Roberts have spoken of how hard Mateta has been working in training and how patient. Also when was Mateta always getting offside under Hodgson? You aren't by any chance confusing him with Batshuayi who did have two loan spells with us and was often caught offside?

If we can get the same money for Benteke to cover Matata's cost then we should keep him, Benteke is Rubbish and 31, Mateta is 23 and might be good, if not we can sell him later, simples

Mateta is not s***, his movement is good and he doesn't get caught offside as much, as of B..............

A mate of mind would never dump his current girlfriend until he had a new one, he did this many times.

Leaving aside the morality it makes sense with players. You never know how could the incoming one is so maybe you want to hang on to the existing one until you are sure.

My 2c worth - JP scored against Brighton (at the end of Feb) - Happy days -

The next time I really saw him was in pre season this year where he was unfit & way off the pace, but I saw / heard several times people saying that he had been quite unwell (no idea if it was covid / injury)

To see him re-emerge in these last few games has actually been a surprise (I thought we had already booked his plane ticket)

On the strength of these last few games where he is still unquestionably trying to fit into the managers game plan (a work in progress if you will) I would honestly keep him -

If that overhead against WH had gone in I am sure that there would be more in this camp too.

Agreed…He is more effective than Benteke.

I think he is a good prospect and certainly seems to be enjoying his football.

Knowing our luck, we ship him out and he goes on to be a £50million pound player.
