What was that all about???
Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping. Hubert Reeves |

I don't watch F1 but made an exception today. I don't care what the rules say it is rubbish. Hamilton was winning that race by a mile and then some other driver has a crash and he gets penalised by losing his lead. I shan't be watching again. I expect people who do watch FI will come on and tell me I don't know what i am talking about, don't care bloke out in front by a country mile suddenly finds his rival side by side who goes onto win. Not a good advert for the neutrals about as fair as WWE.

A disgrace. Hamilton 12 seconds ahead cruising to the World Championship, any restart can not be side by side it must reflect the actual position. Cannot be right.

The Race Director knew he was handing the win to Verstappen. I guess that is what is best for F1, so that Hamilton doesn't win year after year. Seems to me he 'invented new rules'. Been watching the UK Government perhaps.

The race director changed his decision based on a complaint from Red Bull?

I watched this race and the belgian grand prix. What a poor excuse for sport this is. The belgian grand prix ended up being 2 laps behind the safety car yet points were awarded to a winner and for a fastest lap! This last one feels like a mockery of sport. The driver leading by a long way, with a short way to go, is effectively penalised for someone's error/misfortune. Their advantage is taken away and then usual protocol is not followed and the car in second place is put in a place of great advantage. When Mercedes complained the race director said " this is motor racing". That may be so but let's not pretend it's serious sport. This should have been the day Formula 1 attracted an army of new followers. An opportunity missed I sense.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this ending up in court. Mercedes protesting the result as surely anybody would.

I don't even like Hamilton so for me to feel sorry for him well...

Am I mad or did Verstappen congratulate the driver for causing the safety car and the safety car itself? Literally named them in his victory speech.

You can't contrive a race with so many situations as happened (IMO). The give-away statement , for me, came in the radio call to Max from the Red Bull team around lap 4 which went something like "We are not going to contest the re-taking of position with the stewards, Max. We are going to let the situation stand as 'the stewards want us to race'. So keep calm and determined Max and just keep racing til the end" This will be pivotal in the defence against Mercedes protest. The Race Director wanted a race (which until the last lap) Mercedes and all the other teams accepted. the Race Director had to make a decision in 5 seconds on the course of action to take for the final lap. And OK, just letting a few stragglers through in front of Lewis was 'suspect'. But the RD wanted a race. I hope Mercedes drop the case, or reach a settlement without changing the race order or Championship points.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

It's not a proper race when you disadvantage the clear leader and apparently go against the rules and precedents to try and even things up a bit. The Race Director bottled it not Hamilton. Imagine today, we were leading going into extra time and the ref decided he wanted to make more of a game of it. By your logic allowing Everton an extra player would be fine and certainly not something Palace should complain about. F1 is a stupid non sport but even so, surely the Race Director is required to ensure fair play and follow the rules. He wasn't so worried about sporting integrity and making a race of it at the 2 laps behind the safety car Belgian grand prix.
