It's just easier to pretend it's not your problem - that started with outright denial it existed, then became a 'well what about China?' and has now shifted to pointing out the hypocrisy of someone catching a flight or driving a car - eventually they'll run out of places to hide.

Comforting lies are preferable to unpleasant truths.

I find this subject difficult to approach. China has pumped out more co2 in the last year than we have since the industrial revolution. Developing countries will continue to do so as we did in our past. Whatever we do will not alter the reality of relentless climate change. All we can do is reduce our contribution to it which might, just might reduce the impact on human lives in the short term. The reality is that our biggest problem is the amount of humans. Everything else is just a symptom of overpopulation. Climate is probably the least of our problems. The Earth will get warmer, and it will eventually hit another ice age. We won't change that. I suppose that talk of reducing Co2 and all the rest of it at least offers people hope and helps them to ignore the inevitable disruption to the environment that humans have been fortunate enough to experience for the last twelve thousand years. I really don't know how much difference any amount of greenness will achieve, but I do know that people will be exploiting it whatever the outcome.

I find this subject difficult to approach.

China has pumped out more co2 in the last year than we have since the industrial revolution.
Developing countries will continue to do so as we did in our past.

Whatever we do will not alter the reality of relentless climate change. All we can do is reduce our contribution to it which might, just might reduce the impact on human lives in the short term.
The reality is that our biggest problem is the amount of humans. Everything else is just a symptom of overpopulation. Climate is probably the least of our problems.

The Earth will get warmer, and it will eventually hit another ice age. We won't change that. I suppose that talk of reducing Co2 and all the rest of it at least offers people hope and helps them to ignore the inevitable disruption to the environment that humans have been fortunate enough to experience for the last twelve thousand years.
I really don't know how much difference any amount of greenness will achieve, but I do know that people will be exploiting it whatever the outcome.

I don't think there'll be another ice-age. We really have passed the tipping point, and are now in unchartered territory.
Like magicians, the politicians have produced 'deals' to reduce methane and stop deforestation. These will not kick into effect any time soon, and are likely to rapidly increase in the next few years.

A sensible post on a depressing topic. I do think we should all do what we can, and 'going green', 'renewables' and the like would even make sense in the absence of global warming, so we should continue to forge ahead.. but there are unavoidable realities that will still come our way.

The UK could stop making plastic stuff, only for China to flood our markets with cheap stuff made in coal-fired factories. The UK could stop making plastic stuff, only for China to flood our markets with cheap stuff made in coal-fired factories.
We could re-arrange our farmers to be less polluting, only to get cheaper stuff from abroad.
That is the big concern for politicians. The economy and their popularity.

No one disagrees that greener is beneficial but don't use scare tactics of apocalyptic disaster to achieve political ends. All climate predictions are based on the very very worse outcomes.
Not taking into account that we as humans will naturally egress away from fossil fuels.
