Completely. Regardless of ones political views, it staggers me that anyone can still be burying their head in the sand over climate change and the horrendous impact it is having. Will me not getting on a plane every year make a difference? No. Will everyone doing that make a difference? Yes. Do goverenment's and big industry need to do a hell of a lot more too though? Yes again. We're on the brink of disaster though and our children coudl have a miserable existence if nothing is done! It's just easier to pretend it's not your problem - that started with outright denial it existed, then became a 'well what about China?' and has now shifted to pointing out the hypocrisy of someone catching a flight or driving a car - eventually they'll run out of places to hide. Comforting lies are preferable to unpleasant truths.

I find this subject difficult to approach. China has pumped out more co2 in the last year than we have since the industrial revolution. Whatever we do will not alter the reality of relentless climate change. All we can do is reduce our contribution to it which might, just might reduce the impact on human lives in the short term. The Earth will get warmer, and it will eventually hit another ice age. We won't change that. I suppose that talk of reducing Co2 and all the rest of it at least offers people hope and helps them to ignore the inevitable disruption to the environment that humans have been fortunate enough to experience for the last twelve thousand years.

I don't think there'll be another ice-age. We really have passed the tipping point, and are now in unchartered territory. And Hrolf is bang on the money about human over-population. That is the massively big elephant in the room. Nature will sort it, eventually. Edited by Forest Hillbilly (02 Nov 2021 6.09pm)

So Biden thinks China and Russia wrong to attend. They actually do have delegates, but probably do not wish to participate in another capitalist junket designed to enhance western politicians reputations to the disadvantage of the issue of climate itself. Saw you coming Joe. Without China this will not work, and of course it is a communist society.

A sensible post on a depressing topic. I do think we should all do what we can, and 'going green', 'renewables' and the like would even make sense in the absence of global warming, so we should continue to forge ahead.. but there are unavoidable realities that will still come our way.

No one want to go green first, because ultimately it would put your economy at a huge disadvantage.

It's a problem for some that the climate was warmer a couple of thousand years ago and that far fewer people die now in floods for example than in previous centuries. No one disagrees that greener is beneficial but don't use scare tactics of apocalyptic disaster to achieve political ends. The much mentioned Chatham House report is projective based on a view through certain lenses, as we saw in the pandemic , these sort of projects are variable in accuracy and often wildly wrong. For those with an agenda that this suits the report becomes a bible, similarly with opposing views, as usual, the truth will lie somewhere in between the extremes
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

When it gets too hot for us humans to live, and at the present rate it could be quite soon, what to do? An advance booking of the new Academy hydrotherapy pool seems to be in order.

Or you could run on the pitch at half time and get a cold shower under the sprinklers that come on every match even if it’s pissing it down. Football clubs and their fans are so non green. The truth is it’s all one big pr thing. Population is the huge issue. Tripled in 70 years.

I enjoyed the first Robocop movie; very inventive and ahead of its time.. but there's no way I'm watching 25 more.
