Although it is true what the banner says one issue I have with it is tribalism. If Palace were taken over by a Saudi billionaire the majority of Palace fans would be like any other football fan accept it because it would ensure Palace become a European side within the next 3 to 5 years. Top 10 is a dream and that looks unlikely this season. It is hypocritical to have a banner when if the opposite happened most Palace fans like any other football fan base would welcome it cause most fans care more about success than their owners. Plus if the PL did not accept it would have been hypocritical. You have Man City owned by a state effectively. Chelsea owned by a Russian owner. If you say no to Newcastle there is a double standards. There has also been allegations of corruption against the Chelsea owner, Man City and nearly every rich owner. Most rich owners have allegations of corruption against them many of them are true Newcastle are no different. Money has taken over football a long time ago. Most owners see clubs as businesses. Abramovich didn't take over Chelsea cause of the location of course it was due to profitability. Same with City, PSG and any other football club. Edited by Zaha127 (24 Oct 2021 6.49am) Maybe the PL had no say in it! Government obviously got involved. Await the mega tv deal with Saudi tv

"legally binding" assurances that Saudi Arabia would not control the club. 'We have the other clubs worried over sponsorship'. From the new board at Newcastle? No, the Saudi Arabian finance minister.

I showed my wife the banner. Her comment: "Is that Arab man trying to behead a penguin?"

Thats not strictly true. When the top 6 clubs were planning to break away and form a European Super League. The fans started protesting outside their grounds, made them think twice and they quickly back tracked, then pulled out.

Politics has no place in football, whether it is unfurling banners about human rights issues abroad or taking the knee. The sentiment will have support from a lot of people, but you can't blame the fans or players of Newcastle. One is left wondering how the rules on ownership have allowed this to happen. It's hard not to be cynical.
Not sure why so many people are making out that this Newcastle new ownership is a problem have they forgotten about all the other owners who are not so clean also look at many of the countries which have hosted World Cups etc. It is all about money and if you can tick some boxes which show you are not directly involved in illegal activity that is fine. Regarding rights each country is different who is to say what is acceptable or not regarding them (This is the problem with the modern day and how people believe their way is how it should be) The rich exploit people everyday so do govt yet this is allowed.

Same with Beckham taking millions to be the Qatar Ambassador for the World Cup, when it was a dodgy bid to begin with, their human rights record is horrendous, and hundreds if not more have died building these stadiums. It's all taking the coin and portraying it as some kind of exercise in 'opening dialogue'. Really it's a transparent version of how capitalism can easily be undermined. Rampant corruption in politics means that politicians can typically be bought on the cheap, undermining society. There would never be any need for the likes of Russia or China to go to war with the west (because a conventional war would be all but impossible nowadays), as they can just undermine it from the inside out by using their influence to amplify contentious issues and buy themselves many more seats at every table than joe average will ever have.
