I am not apportioning blame, but American foreign policy following the ouster of the Russians from Afghanistan, did somewhat annoy Osama Bin Laden. Make of that what you will. Islamist extremists are indeed idiots, vile creatures and scum. I hope you are not calling all Muslims idiots, and denigrating their holy text, as that would appear to be so offensive as to warrant the infamous red card on these pages. I get up at 5am to go to work to pay for the country to function.

When the first snippet of news was released he started to dance on Amess's grave in celebration. I actually feel embarrassed for you, for saying this. What an unpleasant thing to say. The only person who has tried to make some ‘gain’ is you, with that comment against another poster. Edited by Helmet46 (16 Oct 2021 7.49am)

With all due respect, Imran Khan is talking s***e there. If you know the first thing about the Quran you will know it can be translated and interpreted in many different ways. What members of ISIS practice is very different to what moderate Muslims believe. If you are going to opine on an entire religion, please understand it is practiced in many different ways. You are once again showing your naked anti Muslim hatred. Tommy Robinson would be very proud of you. Who’d have thought it, Mainey knows more about Islam than Imran Khan!

just out of interest, why would insulting the Quran warrant a red card ? Just this discussion seems to have deviated a fair bit to incorporate a lot of elements. Another murder of an MP, I can see this has the potential to lead to constraint of access to your political representative.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

How many such events, and other issues, involving immigrant 'communities' would it take for you to consider that there might be a problem?

Predictably, now that the Police, have indicated a possible link to Islamic extremism to the suspect, this thread has largely deteriorated into another bout of Islam bashing. We know terrorists exist, motivated by extreme views and with no respect for democracy. They come in various guises, and whilst those from an Islamic background are seemingly currently the most prevalent and threatening, all are dangerous and to be unreservedly condemned. I urge caution in rushing to judgement, as until the murderer is fully interrogated and his mental health assessed, we don't really know very much. What this demonstrates is that MPs are not safe in today's world, and that's not going to change. Many MPs are confirming they face an increasing number of threats, including many death threats. This is the reality in 2021. We need to consider why that is, and how we respond to it. I have read the suggestion that MPs surgeries should now take place online. If that was matched by some public meetings held in venues with security in place, perhaps broadcasted locally and available to view later, then public access could be maintained whilst the MPs safety improved. Something needs to be done, or we risk people walking away from the job. Jo Cox's sister, Kim Leadbeater, who is now an MP, is already under pressure to do just that. MP's should remember that it was their policies that allowed this cancer into our country. Don't hold your breath though. Once again, I'm very disappointed to see a very serious topic ruined by people hell bent on disruption and abuse.

This is a tragedy and I feel sorry for his family. Yesterday many MPs demanded more protection and pointed out that 6/7 of them have been killed in the last 70 odd years doing their job. I wonder how many police officers, shopkeepers, taxi and bus drivers have been murdered in the same period doing their job? This man was carrying a knife and and MPs don't like stop and search in case it offends parts of the community. I expect extra taxpayers money will be sent to protect them and I don't have a problem with that but every day people are murdered on our streets when are they going to do something about that. RIP David Amess.

You are being presumptive, this does not say it has been confirmed as Islamic extremism It is being investigated as potential terrorist act. Originally posted by Maine Eagle
