Wasn't cinatra's the old Purley ballroom? I was born on Christmas Day 1959 over a piano shop two doors down from the Orchid Ballroom in Purley. My Dad was bar manager there at the time and had to leave at 1 a.m Christmas Eve/Day to come home as I was arriving at 1.45 a.m.!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

The only Railway Tavern I know was in Carshalton. I went by it on my paper round.
