All good points the bottom line is that the EU and then the individual countries have decided how to treat our citizens. I think when you compare their residency process to ours e.g. free and quick we have nothing to be ashamed of. As to the ex Pats to be honest I don't care surely part of moving to a foreign country is to get away from the UK they seem to want it both ways, it's the risk you take when you move abroad. Edited by Badger11 (02 Jul 2021 11.00am) Most of the permanent ex pats are sorted with their Spanish residency, it is only the Brits that lived there and stuck their heads in the sand that have suffered. I have no sympathy with those. As I mentioned, the real issue is for the Swallows who own property and spend the summer in the UK and the winter abroad. They have effectively had the time they can spend there halved. For the super rich who have places in say the Caribbean too there is no issue as they just fly off somewhere else warm for 3 months but for those with second homes in Europe, they are being penalised.

I think the media, especially the Guardian and the BBC are leading project fear when it comes to UK immigrants in Europe. For almost all of these countries, it's just a small form once a year. No big deal. Only a complete fool would end up being deported and that would be after 100 warnings.

Oh the problems of having a second home in Europe, must be a nightmare...... UK offered residency to all EU nationals who wanted it, did the EU not reciprocate, I have no idea and no dog in the fight
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Its great news for Sunderland. It saves on dole money in the long run. Great piece of socialism from the Tories. Wealthy southerners pay to keep northerners in work. Totally support it, not that I would ever by a Nissan. You can't beat a German car.

Lost friends and divorce, family break-ups. If you were with a remain or leave nutcase who lived for it 24/7, you would probably consider brexiting yourself out of the situation. Wonder if Gove is such a case.

Remain or leave all seems a little academic now as the result is clearly not something that will be revisited for a good few years. My favourite comedy characters of the piece though are those 'expats' living in Spain who voted to leave the EU and were positively stunned when some of them then had to return home. Ha. Seconded. Helmets Only issue is now they have to come back.

National socialism alive and well on HOL. That's one hell of a leap. That's like saying if you believe in equality you're a communist.

They had no-one to blame but themselves. The Spanish made it abundantly clear what steps you had to take and a timescale if you wanted to stay and it wasn't difficult, you just had to apply for non-fiscal residency and all you had to prove for this was self sufficiency. I do think some slipped between the cracks regarding being allowed to stay, but on the whole I totally agree. It was an entitled 'an Englishman is home wherever he goes' type attitude that led to some not bothering to realise that countries have their own laws and processes. Some couldn't be bothered to file a few forms by a set date and are now living the consequences of a situation they put themselves in. Maybe they should've left voting to people who can be bothered to actually still live in the country . Edited by BlueJay (02 Jul 2021 11.46pm)
