As some of you may have noticed, I'm in full reminiscing mode at the moment. When you get to my age, coupled with the present unpleasantness outside, it actually becomes therapeutic.

Anyway, I've just loaded a new, well, very old but new to me, 45 into my jukebox and it set me thinking about the first record I bought.

There was a record store by Wallington Green where you could listen to records in a booth to decide whether or not to buy. I'd saved up some cash from my paper round and entered this store filled with some trepidation and having not finally decided on my purchase. Having browsed for a while I came out clutching a copy of Cathy's Clown by the Everley Brothers which I still have. It was 1960.

So, I wonder what record you first bought? I'd be interested, purely out of historical curiosity. Or should that be hysterical? I don't know anymore.

If you'd prefer I didn't bother you with this stuff please say so. I'll just go off in a huff.

And here was me thinking you were talking guns.

Walk Like A Man by Four Seasons, 1963? (only because my big brother had bought Sherry). Oh yes, one of my cousins from Wood Green claimed to be best pals at school with Dave Clark, so I can be glad all over about that

Could you imagine getting Dave and however many of the 5 are around to come and play one day pre match to a packed Selhurst. It would be fantastic but we probably wouldn’t hear them over the crowd joining in.

Popped into the local record shop in Sydenham to buy Telegram Sam but they hadn't got it in stock so I bought Metal Guru instead and still have it

it was the record shop upstairs opposite Village Way it had booths so you could listen to the records before buying or just hang out to listen to music until they got fed up with you and through you out . I also used the record store in Clockhouse as it was the nearest to where I lived

The first 45 I purchased was Clodagh Rogers, "Jack in The Box" in 1971.I was 9 years old at the time and probably really bought by my Mum for me but fast forward 5 years to late 1976 and I'm now 14 nearly 15 and influenced by my big sister and her musical tastes. Living in Catford and visiting Diamond Records I bought "Anarchy In The UK" by The Sex Pistols on EMI label and black sleeve! I still have both, one worth slightly more than the other. Ollie's Dad,Ash.

How strange we've got so much in common. I confess that I had a few visits to the Bridge too. A customer of mine was a lifelong ST holder there in the days of the old Shed and we had some fine lunches in their restaurant before matches.

He was also very proud of the fact that the balcony of his apartment was covered in a piece of artificial turf from their pitch that he acquired after they disposed of it and reverted to proper grass.

In those days, it was an ordeal getting to and from Chelsea and having to run a gauntlet of homicidal skinheads. It's mainly why I changed my allegiance to Palace after the Boxing Day derby in 1969. Chelsea won 5-1 but the Palace Faithful were much nicer people!

However, I regret to have missed out because I went to the school a few hundred yards up the road from Wallington Green for seven years. I don't ever recall going into the record shop on the Green.

That must've been Wallington Grammer? I'm an Elmwood boy myself. Yours is still there - mines been pulled down.

BTW, Jeff Beck was at Elmwood too.

My first 45 was Glad all Over by Palace's FA cup Final squad in 1990. I was 13 and bought it from Our Price music shop in Bexleyheath.
I actually own Dave Clark Five's version on single cd which I find for 50p at a music fayre some 15 years ago.

I do now own a lot of original Beatles first edition singles now incl Magic Mystery Tour EP.

I have 2 copies of the Palace 'Glad all over' both bought for 50p at different charity shops a few years back and the Dave Clare Five original all on 7" vinyl.
I also have the MMT ep, not in the greatest looking condition but they play okay.

And looking through this thread I have loads of these from 'Green Tambourine' to 'Antmusic' and more all on 7" vinyl purchased since 1972 and still collecting today
