Mhm. Not so sure. Politics was always primarily about careerism and that special sauce that meant you were willing to put yourself up for the slings and arrows. Lets be honest, the overwhelming majority of us not. I guess the bigger issue is that if somebody has the desire to be an MP it usually means they are probably far more likely to lean towards the narcissistic and bordering on the verge of several personality disorders. I believe that is more prevalent on the Left but I also am more than willing to concede that this POV is massively coloured by my own political leanings. With Boris Johnson no doubt one of the worst examples of this, immediately proving a huge and glaring exception to that rule. For me, the greatest recent study of the modern western politician was the Netflix remake of 'House of Cards', series 1-3 (the rest are not worthy of consideration). And yes I know, we are not meant to watch it anymore but seriously, it is an incredible work of fiction. Genius writing and acting. I confess that politicians both horrify and fascinate me because we place so much power into these peoples hands because somebody has to do the job but an inclination to do such a task must always be a massive warning of wariness about such people. Personally, I tend to think that a benevolent dictatorship is by far the best system of Governance but we are stuck with what we have for the time being.
I'm talking about a different time nearly three generations ago. Careerism still existed obviously but I contend that there was less of it due to the reality that most were already made men coming from wealth. The power dynamic was different. The attraction of the gravy train still existed but had less power.

Billionaire chancellors. Ricki is worth £2000 million-2 billion, we are all in it together! On this topic I think we are agreed. As far as I'm concerned, if he can't make a decent Chicken Masala he ain't worth two bob. He's spent the earth since he's come in and when that interest rate starts going up he'll be out of it swanning himself. Edited by Stirlingsays (28 Jan 2021 10.39pm)

Dangerous, mad and repulsive! Dolphin, I fully agree with you. This twaddle that's put about is sickening. What must go on in kids minds hearing this dangerous, so called equality stuff, beggars belief. Surely it's not just an age thing. Please tell me there are some common sense people out there who also find this leftist preaching intolerable. Where's Piers Morgan when you need him! I really hate to think what my granddaughter (7) gets told at school. Just thankful her parents are on the same wavelength as me.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Many commit suicide.
