Minimum wage

Surely there has to be something wrong with the system if your looking enviously at young people because companies can pay them less than they could possibly live on. "Bloody companies treating kids like dirt...why won't they treat me and my wife like dirt?" Yeah, the system is broken...

Fair comment, I just think there needs to be a differentiation to encourage youngsters to either study up to 18 or seek an apprenticeship of some sort. If they know they won’t get the full amount until18 it might dissuade them from taking early employment, although I get what you are saying.

Yeah, agree with the £10 an hour, we can skim it off the top if they can"t afford it- no room at the bottom these days to lower wages.

Part time retail work for them is often one day at the weekend and either one or two evenings. If retailers on Saturday and Sundays hire as many under 18’s and the least amount of adults and it works then they will, and they don’t need as many Monday-Friday. Does the current wage jump to full minimum wage at 18? I thought it didn’t until a few years later. Isn’t that the same with jobseekers as well? 21 or 24 or something?
