Calm down Treacle. You sound like an angry young man. I'm not having a go at you, I just don't believe it was terror related. But just like you, I don't know what happened, so I won't post what supposedly happened.

Don’t believe this is in the news yet but scary times for Croydon, if true. The news says he arrived in a Police vehicle. Even if he did feign handing himself in somewhere, it seems strange he managed to smuggle a gun into the vehicle.

Just awful and I'm in shock to be honest. I knew the officer involved and worked with them for a number of years at Croydon. Just unbelievable. Sorry man. Be there for his kin please x

Don’t believe this is in the news yet but scary times for Croydon, if true. I can tell you categorically that this was not the way of it. The suspect was stopped in the street for acting suspiciously. He was searched and found to have rounds of live ammunition on him for which he was arrested. I do not know if he was handcuffed or not but if he was he was handcuffed to the front which is normally only done to extremely compliant individuals and for minor offences. The reason being is that even if you are handcuffed to the front you can still access something about your person. He was put into the back of a Police van and taken to Windmill Road. The van was taken into an enclosed area where you wait to be taken into the custody suite. Since Covid all prisoners are held in the back of the van and one off the custody sergeants then comes out and asks them a series of Covid questions. Almost like a risk assessment. The custody sergeant came out and when the back door to the van and cage was opened the suspect was sitting inside with a handgun and shot the sergeant 5 times at point blank range before shooting himself. I can only describe the Sergeant as an absolutely top bloke. A man of many many years service that was done to retire very soon. I'm not going to name him obviously as that's not been released into the public domain yet and wouldn't be fair. I hope this clears up some of the confusion. Naturally many questions need to be asked as to exactly how an arrested person has been able to be in Police custody with a handgun in his possession. Very sad day indeed.

In fact a few minutes after my last post he has just been named in the press... According to the report the suspect was actually handcuffed to the rear and still was when the shooting occurred which I'm trying to work out could be possible. Matt had played rugby at a very high standard and was head coach at East Grinstead Rugby Club.... RIP mate.

It must be really hard having known him. I think the best thing you, or anyone, can say ids that he was a "top bloke". Probably all that I would want to be known as. And I wonder how many of the various people that post on here, argue, score points, are in public life, celebs, or generally go about their lives in general could possibly aspire to such a lovely summary once they've gone?
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

Buyers are reluctant to invest in Croydon compared to most of Greater London. Do crime levels contribute to this phenomenon ? Perhaps, along with the stigma it’s had for decades Although zooming in on that map gives a more accurate picture. Plenty of pockets of high growth... ive just remortgaged and our house has nearly doubled in value since it’s 2013 sale of 300k so not as bleak as you’d like to make out. Plenty of flats centrally going for big money, although even I would question the values of some of them

The council is mainly to blame. Absolute mismanagement. As for West Croydon, it's really not that bad. Unless you get intimidated by the high street being full of, how might you put it, 'ethnics'. Seems to be where that crude, drive by observation has come from. I live 10 minutes walk from both WC and EC station. Yes Croydon has it's issues but from your closed curtain, shire based, outsider narrative anyone would think I'm going to get shot and mugged every time I step outside my house. Complete dross Seconded! I"m in West Croydon 6 days a week and walk right through the centre and only had one problem in 3 years- getting stopped by the police asking me what i was cutting down an alley for- my reply of why do you want to know ?shut them up- I had a shopping carrier bag with me! Officer said"theres a smell of cannibis!
